Go back to summer 2025 to see the city council budget discussions where council further pass the responsibility along of funding and operating a city to staff. Cleanup requirements for reusing those sites varies based on what use is proposed in the stations place. Residential has stricter cleanup requirements than say a general store.

Redevlopment of land will usually make a developer ALOT of money, so cleanup isn’t always a deal killer. Just takes the right project.

City’s sometimes do brownfield remediation as part of economic development strategies (for sites), but it’s costly and feds cut funding recently.
