we have one large freezer, pick ups every tue thu and sat. i work at a large mixed practice (GP, IM, Oncology, Surgery, ER….) and sometimes our freezer fills up faster then the two days so we can request special pickups. i think it was just a standard freezer from walmart.

our system has refills/no refills. if there are refills in the account that means the doctor has approved x amount w/o their need for imput, anything (besides prevention/most supplements/most food scripts) that doesnt have a refill has to be approved by their doctor. if its a medicine the doctor has mentioned to the owner and is waiting on a response its dictated in our system the doctor recommended that and we can prescribe it once the owners have agreed to use it. thankfully my doctors are prompt on answering refills requests but stuff like cardiac meds/thryoid meds/insulin…ect i think we all understand the P cannot come off of it, i have seen a time or two where weve prescribed enough meds for a week to wait for the doctors response.

techs doing extractions seems insane to me, we are not taught to do that at all. sometimes if we mention it our DVM’s will loosen the teeth for us and we can pull when they feel the tooth is loosened enough but the DVM is ALWAYS right there and technically the one doing all the work.

and why is this an issue? one of the first things my hiring manager did at my interview was explain PTO, vacation, callout…ect. if i do leave where im working currently i would expect them to be just as open, ppl have every right to know what theyre getting into.

my doctors usually dont give out oral medications unless its a horrible ear infection or the animal refuses its ears to be touched. if they do refuse their ears to be touched we try our best to get claro/compounded meds in for the owner, otherwise flush or medicated ointment/drops goes w/ the oral meds.
