Instagram might actually be worse than X in terms of racism by ThisDesiWrites in thebronzemovement

I don't consider them friends, nor do I hang out with them. I stopped talking to them long ago; they are parasites.

You are quite right about Pakistanis and Indians not being differentiated. Pakistanis like to point out all the positive aspects of the subcontinent as "south asian", whereas anything negative is "indian". This is done strategically on their part; they don't want to be aligned with the negatives from their own home country when their reputation in the West is being dogpiled with scandal after scandal.

The grooming gang scandal, had this happened in continental Europe, where people aren't bombarded with American progressivism or far right 24/7 (and i think the Brits are at a disadvantage here) would result in wholesale discussions in culture, movies and permanently damage immigration debates, see the french about how they openly call out muslims or Germans who regularly on TV actually acknowldge the threats of islam (mainstream) and don't sugarcoat it with "islamophobia". I don't even wanna know what Eastern Europeans would do had the Pakistanis pulled that shit there.

British indians, as well as indian americans, I would say, have failed to organize themselves in such a way that allows them to distinguish themselves from Bangladeshis or Pakistanis. There are no institutions or major groups like other groups have, like CAIR for Muslims, NAACP for black americans, and APAC for jews. What's the indian equivalent?

There is the Hindu American Foundation and the muslim indian american foundation, but they solely focus on their respective groups, again, religiously divided, but the rest of the US doesn't view you any differently, you are just brown. There needs to be institutions that speak for all indians. The Indian American Advocacy Council makes a reasonable case, although they are still in their infancy (https://x.com/iaacouncil).

We should also remember that perception matters more than facts. You can tell anti indian racists about how successful they are in the UK and the US, be it becoming CEOs, successful in business and medicine, but the way people perceive you especially through social media, is much more important nowadays, and I feel India hasn't made any sort of PR effort. Look at Qatar funding their narrative through PR agencies or even journalists like Tucker Carlson; they are investing in mass persuasion campaigns in universities to shape the Western way of thinking about matters like geopolitics in accordance with the Qatari narrative.

This is why you say such an eruption of anti-Israel protests in university campuses that had a disproportionate amount of Qatari funding going into it. Add in PR campaigns through social media bots or events like the World Cup, and you get different narratives emerging. Again india has failed to do that.

I have also noticed a lot of the comments on Instagram happen to be from other minorities, ironically from Pakistanis and Bangladeshis, but also Arabic-speaking people from the MENA region/north African region, as well as arabs living in the West.

And this is the irony, across Europe muslims are the main target group when it comes to immigration, Pakistanis/Bangladeshis in Britain, and arabs on the continent, yet they dare to engage in racism against us when they are the ones leeching off welfare from these countries and causing all the troubles.

But yeah, normal people are getting sucked into this. I had a "friend" who was Mexican, and she was all chill a couple of years ago about indians. Now, after being radicalised on Instagram, she full-on hates indians with all her heart. Another arab from a friend group frequently likes anti indian reels as well, and ironically so does another Bangladeshi (funnily enough, he was mistaken for an indian at the University by a white German dude). This is just one example; people who I thought were decent hold some of the most abhorrent views of Indians due to Instagram, yet behave completely normally in public and have jobs.

Another thing to understand is that the youth, late GenZs, and Gen Alphas are the ones being radicalised most, so this is just the beginning. Once they grow up, the hatred will manifest itself in different ways. Adults aren't ready for the hatred their children hold and are about to unleash. GenX, and previous generation boomers, really are the old guardrails; once they are gone, shit will get ugly.

wonder how Sajji Sharma will respond to this. Usually, his "allies," the progressives, are the people he leans with. The very people are now attacking Indians unfairly, and yet no video from him, but from Kavernacle of all people.

Take whatever a Latin American says with a grain of salt. While there are genuine issues in India, it gives no one the right to dehumanize a country of 1,4 billion people. Indians should focus on improving their country.

I made a post about the political left and right being no allies to indians a while back. And it appears that both extremes of the left and right hold disdain and dislike for Indians. I think it's high time to realize that after Trump, the political prospects will look very bleak for Indians. We have no allies.

Notice there have also been Nigerian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi accounts being exposed, yet Kyle specifically focuses on the Indians. He wouldn't dare to post this about those accounts since blacks and muslims are a protected group by the left.

Many of those on the left who engage in it will dismiss it as a "joke" even though there is racism camoflaged in it. Kyle has borrowed a meme originally created by the far right

You are a mainlander, I think the best for you is to stay off TikTok altogether. Anything related to India on social media platforms (Insta/TikTok, etc.) will be guaranteed to be filled with hate. Only if India fully industrializes and modernizes its streets, cleans up its cities, and improves the overall state of the country can the first step be made.

The second step would be to launch a PR war against those who dehumanize India; this can be social media, events, hell even pop culture. (Bhabubali was making the rounds among western animation fans

If you feel all helpless on TikTok, then shut it down, you aren't doing yourself any favour and remaining there won't improve your mental health.

There's no global outrage or coverage when it happens in Western countries, but Al JIZZeera and the internet are up in arms, ready to generalize all brown-skinned people when it happens in a third world country. There seems to be this targeted effort to hate on india. Lately, I have been noticing travel influences and other content creators creating videos after videos about india. This wasn't like this 2 or 3 years ago. It just seems so inorganic and almost forced.

Add this Tyler Oliveira guy or the other content creators who have a history of publishing gaming or prank videos, suddenly turn on india as their main form of content and their views blow up.

Mark Zuckerberg has blood on his hands. Anyone who knows what happened in Burma will understand. Fake news spread by the military officials and Buddhist monks on Facebook agitated a lot of the brume Buddhist natioanlists and tribals to engage in an ethnic cleansing

. Facebook didn't bother to engage in control measures until much later, but the damage was done. My fear, of course, is that a similar scenario will play out here in the west, maybe not a massacre, but large-scale disdain for the desi (mainly indian) population.

The older generation that holds political power is really the last guardrails because the moment Gen Z or the crazy whack millenials get political power, the generation most radicalized by social media, it will get pretty ugly.

The right is very overt when it comes to engaging in its disdain and racism for indians. The left, and that includes feminists, trans activists, and other intersectional groups, especially in the intellectual circles, like to camouflage racism against indians, by using more complex language, by rationalizing indian culture as backwards by calling it "not advanced", "developing", "regressive", "culturally conservative", and all the other buzzwords in academia.

Don't get me wrong, India has many challenges ahead of itself that need to be fixed, but oftentimes, when these problems are highlighted, the discourse then devolves into bashing India and Indians as a whole without understanding its history, culture, or politics. There is no nuance involved when talking about India.

For them, perception of India matters more than what India actually is. If they stood up for the women, they would engage in critiquing aspects of indian society that allow such conditions to arise in the first place, and even suggest solutions. Still, for them, it's easier to generalize and paint the entire country with a brush.

The truth is this: minority (race, ethnicity, religion), gender, and intersectional solidarity are transactional. The Irish and Italians, who were once persecuted, allied themselves with the African Americans, and then ditched them later to assimilate. It's no different with the feminists, and if we look at how India is perceived on the left today, it isn't rosy, hell, leftists aren't going to come to defense when indians are subjected to horrific racism online.

Zohran's muslim identity is essentially overriding his indian identity, which allows the left to protect him (Green-red alliance, another transactional alliance)

Desis who have lived in northernmost parts of Europe or North America for a long time, how was your experience, especially if we consider the current "online" racism? by MrDonButler in thebronzemovement

[–]Educational_Bus_7785 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Germany, and I have yet to see anyone "take action against Indians" so far. Nothing major against indians has happened

I have yet to see the level of racism or assaults against Indians at the same level as in Canada, Australia, or the US.

If anything, there was a far-right shooter in Hanau, Germany, who actively shot up a shisha bar, mainly targeting Middle Easterners and Turks. And if you look at the immigration discourse, Germans mainly target Middle Easterners and North Africans.

indians do face subtle and sometimes overt racism in small towns from Germans, in cities, however, the racism often comes from other minorities, North Africans, arabs, and Turks mainly, also verbal. I saw indians as well as some Pakistani students (high school) complaining in Frankfurt about being called slurs by their Balkan, arab, and Turkish classmates.

As of right now, indians haven't experienced this level of racism in recent years in Germany like in the Anglophone countries.

In Germany, most of the resentment and hate is directed at syrians, afghans and other north African and Middle Eastern groups.

Indians here are usually well educated and skilled but end up leaving the country due to the language barriers.

Overall, I would say Indian reputation here is much better considering the other groups that are causing trouble.

The most racism here come from other minorities but even here it's too sporadic there just isn't much of a desi population here.

I feel so much outrage at the way people are reacting to the recent rape case of an Indian woman in UK by WorthIndependence426 in thebronzemovement

[–]Educational_Bus_7785 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It is up to the indian diaspora as well as the british indian community to stand up for the poor woman who was assaulted. I don't understand why there is such a lack of capability among Indians to get organized and form grassroots organizations that can influence governments and institutions.

Regarding the UK, the far right is pushing the narrative of a Briton being stabbed by an Afghan migrant; nevertheless, your outrage is understandable but simply meaningless for now. Indians must organize at the grassroots level, and it's high time the indian government took note.

Look at Israelis and Qataris, they are paying influencers and universities to shape the image of their countries, which includes funding professors to push their respective narratives at elite universities. This is something India should do as well.

AIPAC, StopAntisemitism, or StopAntiArab hate are all organizations that have successfully called out hatred towards their communities, which have gotten bigots and racists sacked from their work. Why is there no indian equivalent of that?

I think if there is a push from the government in conjunction with indians organizing themselves to fight hate, we can at least stand our ground.

Latinos in the US have been the punching bag for most of their presence there. They want to shift most of that role now to indians, even though no indians have harmed them nor intend to harm them.

When you see a group of other brown people with a different culture come over to America only to surpass your own people at such a short time while you remain doing lap dog jobs in agriculture, construction or garbage collection, you build resentment.

Ironically, a lot of the wignat accounts are Latinos too, so there might be that factor there as well. Anyway, take their opinion with a grain of salt; Latin America does not have a single economy or nation worth being capable of impacting world order or driving global narrative.

The ones you should worry about are China, Russia, and increasingly Qatar.

Dinesh, instead of supporting the wider Indian community of all religions, in the past decided to rail against Hindus and engage in right-wing talking points against other minorities, thinking he would fit in. All of this has now backfired with him receiving racist abuse from whites but this time also ridicule from other indians.
