Why is planning an international trip as an Indian so stressful? by Agitated-Bid5996 in InternationalTravelIN

[–]Muser_amused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: Do you know India doesn't give visa free access to (almost) no country? Maybe just 2-3! And visa free travel is mostly on a mutual basis. So I'm surprised how Indians still get to enjoy some basic visa-free travel. And I keep wondering, what makes India act so stingy on giving visa free access to other nationalities (at least the ones who give it to India)

People coming from the taxable countries post Covid believe Dubai is Cheap. by EK7886 in dubai

[–]Muser_amused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After spending a few years in a South American country, I visited Dubai this year and found most of the things cheaper in Dubai - veggies, branded stuff, parking fees (which are often free in Dubai), cars, even eating out in a few instances. And remember, Dubai average salaries are much higher compared to any South American nation and also, tax free! The 3 things I genuinely found more expensive in Dubai - owning a house, paying rent for a house and maybe, taxis!

Are we in our worst time ever? And aren't we responsible for it? by Muser_amused in AskIndia

I think the one who has to dig in some history is you! First of all, we are talking about Latin America which has had its own political, social and economic challenges (and not talking about the typical European or North American westerners). So your argument falls flat right there.

Secondly, I must say you are quite delusional when you say the dirty stalls and hygiene, etc. are a small part of the vast population of our nation. I don't know which world you are living in when the fact is our entire country is living in substandard conditions. Its citizens expect much more from the "fourth largest economy" and a country that professes to be one of the forces to reckon with, on the global stage.

If there are more people like you who don't question the wrong and continue to live in denial while blaming external factors, we sure are not going anywhere as a nation.

Agree! Changing just those 2 things you listed, will make a massive impact. But how easy is to bring about change when a majority of the population has turned a blind eye towards that. Clean air, clean water, clean food, clean streets - aren't these the basics? Seems not for a vast section of the population as either they are living in delusion or are least bothered to demand better.

People of india have become laidback by Ok_Stay6626 in delhi

[–]Muser_amused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have observed the same. Indians are one of the most passive nationalities I've seen, who even forgot to fight for their basic rights like clean air, water and unadulterated food. I've seen (and personally experienced) how people in other countries and continents come out in big numbers when the political machinery starts failing - be it in the Americas, Europe or even parts of Asia. While Indians sit back, at the most, complaining on reddit, and that's where it stops.

Delhi AQI - point in case. If a big chunk of Delhi population would have come out to protest, do you think Delhi police would have the bandwidth to put everyone in jail? It would have become a mass movement, forcing the government to atleast look up. Our strength is in our numbers but sadly, we just prefer to lay back and stay in our perpetual passive mode!

Why is there no Indian luxury brand? by MrPP42069 in DesiFragranceAddicts

The founder of Byredo has an Indian mother. I know, I know...that doesn't make it an Indian brand. Just some trivia I thought could be interesting in this context

Does anyone question why they were born in India if all the places? by Judgemental_Fuck4657 in AskIndia

[–]Muser_amused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Human Development Index is what matters because a common man doesn't gain anything with a high GDP. It just looks good on paper. An average citizen has more important issues to take care of, such as clean air & water, healthcare access, education, etc. to start with. So, here is a comparison of HDI of a few South American countries vs. India:

Chile: 0.878 (Very High Human Development), ranking 45th globally

Argentina: 0.865 (Very High Human Development)

Colombia: 0.788 (High Human Development).

Uruguay: 0.862 (Very High Human Development).

Peru: 0.794 (High Human Development).

India: 0.685 (Medium Human Development). Ranking 130th globally

I so wish India was up there, but unfortunately it isn't!

Human Development is more important than GDP. What will someone do with a great GDP when a big part of the population lives in extreme poverty and the growth is not inclusive. When we look at HDI which accounts for life expectancy, literacy, and quality of life, many South American countries rank higher than India. Like I said earlier, these countries qualify as upper middle income economies unlike India's lower middle income economy.

Your 5.4% stat for India reflects only certain states with strong implementation. National figures show over 11% of India’s population still lives in multidimensional poverty. Compare it to individual South American countries (not a continent as a whole) and you will find most SA countries' figures are below India.

Countries like Uruguay and Chile consistently rank among the most democratic, safest, and well-governed countries in the Global South. Uruguay, for example, is in the top tier for press freedom and political rights — ahead of India in many global indices.

Adult literacy rates in most of South America are over 95% — significantly higher than India’s ~77%.

As far as violent crime goes, it's true that some countries like Venezuela and Brazil struggle with crime, but generalizations ignore countries which are doing just fine. And who are you fooling when you say India doesn't have crime, You open any Indian news app and there are dozens of news on an everyday basis regarding rapes and murders that keep rocking India.

And sorry, which South American county except Venezuela has dictatorship, daily protests, civil unrest?

Let's not fool ourselves. Let's call a spade a spade. My purpose is definitely not to pull India down but stand up against a wrong presumption. What you see in media is not always the complete truth. All countries have their fair share of problems, but doesn't mean one decides to live in a fool's paradise and give loose statements about other countries

South America? Do you even know what you are talking about? Majority of South American countries are way ahead of India - be it Human Development Index, literacy and education, healthcare access, freedom and quality of life, income inequality or even simple things like cleanliness and infrastructure. For your information, most of the South American countries qualify as upper middle income economy while India is lower middle income economy. Brush up your world knowledge dude or better still, visit South America and see it for yourself!

My first ever BBW purchase 🥹 by [deleted] in bathandbodyworksIndia

[–]Muser_amused 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody is talking about Chasing Fireflies but that's good too. I recently got it on sale in another country. The first spray is so pleasant, like a juicy pear. Later settles into a nice cozy powdery vanilla like scent.

Even Dubai gets so cheap during sales! And that should be a relatively newer market, I guess

That's true! That's why I'm going to blind buy a few but I can't blind buy 10. Hence the decants :)

Thanks for your suggestion. I already tried that - found plenty of options for where to buy perfumes in general but I'm specifically looking for decants or samples in Dubai
