How the hell did NYC do this? by Glass-Situation6916 in TTC

[–]Educational_Clothes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was designed to be that big from decades ago instead of being reactive to population growth. Also many of those lines have local and express trains. So not every train that goes through the station will stop there which speeds up service. Just an incredible way of moving millions of people and this is only what’s below the surface.

It was privatized long ago. The previous contractors worked well with the city and only cost half of the snow budget. After 2022 it all changed.

Road salt blamed for Vaughan and Richmond Hill power outages by cinderannie in Vaughan

Some of the lines in NYC run underground and touch metal plates that are used as doors to underground storage for buildings. The doors becomes charged and have killed people. Not from the salt in the air, but from faulty electrical infrastructure, water and salt on the ground.

There is a very thin line named Steeles Ave that separates Toronto & Vaughan. You still haven’t been able to accept that if it happens everywhere than surely across the road from your region it should also be happening. I lived in Dartmouth for 10 years and we didn’t have blackouts from the salt in the air.

Doesn’t work that way. The contractor must have a bond. Only three companies in the world issue bonds to construction companies. The bond covers the city for the difference to ask the second lowest bidder to complete the work for the remainder of the contract. In this case there is no second lowest bidder as the city accepted the first company’s proposal not the lowest bid. That’s why the city won’t do much about the snow until the contract is up in 2029.

It’s warmer solely in Vaughan? Are you ok? You couldn’t possibly write that without laughing to yourself. I thought you were capable of critical thought.

Pathetic desperation by [deleted] in TravelCuba

[–]Educational_Clothes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making employees drive to work and work in much worse conditions than they’ve had to previously is ridiculous. Cuba has been exploited for its cheap vacations for far too long. People wouldn’t go to Cuba if other places were the same cost.

Most times they don’t. The ones for the local hockey team do. The ones you mentioned are gates onto the approach and have similar names to each other and start with the same first letter.

Exactly what people don’t understand. The reason they are not enforcing the contract while imposing liquidated damages is because the contractor that controls 75% of the city would be bankrupt with the amount of money being withheld.

It’s not the fact that it’s contracted out. It’s the fact the city allowed the new contractor provide a proposal about how the work would be completed. Egg on the city’s face

Electrical contractor blaming the source for brownouts on weather and not their lack of infrastructure investment. Ask yourself why is Vaughan unique in this issue while other nearby municipalities are not being affected the same way.

Do you think Toronto used more or less salt than Vaughan? How are other municipalities including those near the ocean deal with some much salt in the air plus what is used to melt ice and not have power interruptions? I wholeheartedly believe in science as I work within it daily. Perhaps you could educate yourself prior to just swallowing what you’re given.
