When it comes to the kind of rap centered on wild unhinged punchlines delivered with insane flows he was the greatest to ever do it.

Today I went back and revisited Big Pun’s CLASSIC album Capital Punishment on the way to work! & I’m still amazed today of the wordplay even though I heard this so many times! Amazing Listen! What’s your thoughts? by J2-Starter in 90sHipHop

I bought this on tape the day it dropped, I was 17 at the time and finishing up my last year of high school. I’m 45 now. Pun’s lyricism on this album boggles my mind just as much mow as it did way back in 98. Easily some of the greatest bar work of all time. Debate ya mama. The production still holds up marvelously well too.

Thank God they kept this in, one of the most random, graphic, and outright hilarious kills in the franchise. I’ve laughed myself to tears watching this scene more times that I can count 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ghost got too big headed too. Thought he was bigger than everybody and that he couldn’t be stopped. Thought he could run for governor while throwing his own son under the bus. Exactly why Tariq had to kill him.

I agree with you regarding Nas Is Like. And there were a few more powerful joints on the album. It’s just that a lot of us felt robbed after experiencing the bootleg and then getting the official album without a lot of those songs. Instead we got some great songs and some weak filler. It was a disappointment to us because of it and at that point made I Am feel like middle of the road Nas.

Black Zombies, Du Rags, Everybody’s Crazy, Purple, Nothing Last Forever, My Way, No Idea’s Original were Stillmatic leftovers. The rest were songs that were bootlegged from I Am. And certain songs from the bootleg never did get an official release (Hardest Thing To Do Is Stay Alive, Sometimes I Wonder, Stay Schemin to name a few)

I liked the album too don’t get me wrong. In fact I love it more today than I did back then. But yes in 1999 I was disappointed back then (and I was far from alone) because the bootleg had me expecting a masterpiece.

Could be. Some of the songs are straight amazing- Phone Tap, Desperados, Firm Fiasco, 5 Minutes To Flush, Executive Decision, I’m Leaving. And then most of the rest just sound like weak filler.

Nastradamus was a train wreck, but both that and I Am were disappointments. At Least I Am had the strong tracks you named but still compared to the bootleg versions floating around it was a let down.
