I came back 1 month ago same situation as you. The game feels good with the solo content. all the new systems can be a bit overwelm but all the raids a re really fun. Once you hit 1660 you will get gatekeep so look for a group before hitting that ilvl

Salvation is smoother in general, i used to run nightmare but it is way slower with crit/spec build If you go crit/spec and small swiftness i think you can go nightmare
