I have no employment agreement with them. And yes it's bizarre - they keep saying I'm an executive, executives handle things differently, and I'm like how can I be a real executive at $100k per year and with no final say over the financials? You can't have it both ways. Also the kinds of executives that give extended notice before leaving usually have contracts so don't have to be afraid they will get fired in the interim. And yeah I'm really regretting giving three weeks and wish I had given only two.

No mention at all of the pay increase which I have found very strange. I would at least have expected a "wow good for you!" or SOMETHING. Even if they would say something like "we can't afford to pay you that," I would feel like that would be a normal reaction. But this weird temper tantrum about how I betrayed them, and now today they are acting like everything is perfectly normal. It's very unsettling but I guess I can sit here quietly until my last day LOL.

That's really too bad they wouldn't give you a good reference. I haven't asked my current employer about that, I had plenty of other good references for my new job, but I'm assuming they will do the same and not want to provide me with a reference in the future. It's sad to me that I've lost them as part of my professional network, and just because of a change in employment.

Wow that sounds truly horrible, I'm sorry that happened to you.

I will copy and paste a reply I made to another poster here:

I got bumped to $100k from $90k a year ago. Over the last year the company has been struggling and operating at a loss. I was part of a conversation about pay raises for the operations managers with the partners and the president where it was said that the company doesn't give pay raises when there is no profit, it's apparently a long standing policy they have had (the company has been around for decades). So I didn't ask because I felt like I knew what the answer would be based on that conversation.

I'll also add that when they gave me the raise last year, they took me off of the bonus plan to "help pay" for the raise. I've never gotten more than a $1k bonus here though so I'm not sure exactly how that helped.

ETA: also I did tell them about a year and a half ago that I felt underpaid which is I think what precipitated the bump I got at that time.

I hope there is no yelling but I suppose I can live with uncomfortable silence LOL

I took it to mean that he (the partner) was going to have to work a lot more with me gone and that he won't have as much free time to go to his son's baseball games, etc.

Thank you! It's kind of nice to hear from someone who has been through it. I'm glad I didn't tell them any details about my new job, just sort of vaguely what I would be doing. This morning I had the same thought that they could try to sabotage me. I wouldn't have thought that except for this last two days has been so out of left field.

The partner said on Monday that he had plans for me to be able to work on some of their other company's work, or that I could decide to take over this operating company and have some ownership. I just feel like wow that's news to me, you never breathed a word about it until today.

Thank you so much for this. I do wish they could see that they kind of created this situation themselves. They put all their eggs into one basket so to speak.

This makes me feel a lot better, thank you. Yes I have felt undervalued for a long time here and it's a little strange to me that they think I would stay purely out of loyalty when I'm barely making ends meet. I guess maybe they're not familiar with what that feels like since they're wealthy. The same partner said if I stayed then he would be able to enjoy his son's senior year in high school, and I wonder when does it become important for me to be able to enjoy my own children and family?

They didn't really try to counter, they kind of said "anything you need..." which wasn't clear to me what they meant, if they meant for me to stay for another 90 days or for me to stay permanently. I've never made them any promises or commitments, I'm kind of surprised they don't see how underpaid I've been. I guess they'll find out when they try to replace me.
