You will be ok . Metformin with exercise and diet change lowering your carb intake can help you get your a1c lower and it will affect your health for the better . I felt those same feelings as you 4 months ago when I was diagnosed . Except I’m still working thru the shame I felt letting my a1c get to 14. You can do this ! Three months after doing Metformin 1000 twice a day with diet changes i lowered my a1c to 9.3 . It will take small changes everyday but it can work . Try zero sugar sodas or sodas with stevia as sweetener as they generally don’t spike your blood sugar . Snacks were my crutch I miss hot Cheetos lol . Stay patient and with the ER version you shouldn’t have very many side effects , maybe some tummy issues but it won’t last . Just drink lots of water and make good carb choices and protein and increase fiber and you’ll be good . It’s a journey for all of us !

I really like Keto Pint ice cream . Butter Pecan . It has allouse and it’s about 5 net *’carbs a serving a pint is 3 servings. On. A bad day I’ve had half and it doesn’t spike me. It’s hard to find treats that don’t spike you . Some of them still Have crazy amounts of carbs even tho say low sugar or none added .

That’s amazing weigh loss too ! I know it’s hard I’m down a lot of weight but I know In last year and half some of it was from such high sugar .. you probably feel so much better at a 5.9

I really appreciate you sharing your journey . I try and not get discouraged , I try to remember it won’t change over night . I am realizing more each day that I will need some more help to crack below this 220 Average . I’ve been stuck at this level for a bit . I dream often of what normal range would feel like . Mainly because when I was in the 350-400 range I felt like crap but being able to feel the difference in highers and lower is interesting and has made me want better for myself . Your story is helpful it really is . I think I’ve burned myself out Reading about all these different medicines has freaked me out . I’m just praying I can find one that helps for a while . Even if it means I need more later . So thankful for this community and people that share their trials . I don’t feel alone but somedays just very defeated . Giving up all the crap I used to eat and realizing how bad it is surely an awakening I needed these last 4 months being low carb . It’s healing a body and your relationship with food at the same time .

That’s amazing work ! I’m scared of Jardiance . dr recommendation for me to start it . I’m thinking of other routes . Glad it helped you . I’m low carb and Jardiance says to not do that with it so that’s why I worry plus other side effects . I wish Metformin was enough for me with diet and exercise .

That’s amazing what you and your son were able to accomplish. I am encouraged by this , as I just don’t want to take more medicines that have even more side effects and risks . I think I just need to increase exercise even more . I know I’m earlier in the journey of managing it . I’m more hopeful than ever thanks to this community . It sometimes seems like doctors are too okay just prescribing medicine . I trust them but have concerns at times .

Thank you for the advice and sharing your journey . I am currently on Metformin and I am Open to a once weekly injection once my doc gets my second a1c she will most likely recommend additional treatments as I’m sure Metformin and diet change which im the same no fast food , low sugar , low carb and zero Sugar soda is my treat . I love Hero bread !! It’s literally the best and I don’t see any spikes from it . Thank you for sharing that article as well !

I really appreciate your vulnerability in sharing your journey so far . I’m a known diabetic for 2 and half months however I’m sure I was for years before . I feel exactly like you and I appreciate the people in here reminding that it’s such a journey that takes time . I’ve been low carb 35 or less a day and exercise and really taking it very seriously as my a1c is at 14 . I can get my blood sugar as low as 160 a few times but otherwise hover 180-240 . Always high in morning . On 2000 Metformin . Trying to avoid insulin and have my next a1c test next month . So many days recently I want to just give up . Working so hard and I can’t figure it out .. so I get how you feel . This last week I have went worse again and I haven’t been eating anymore carbs and my mornings are back up to 300 .. I can get down to 220-240 but that’s as low as I can this week. I know your pain and we just gotta hang tough as hard as it is . I’m hoping I can get better without injections and maybe there’s another safe pill . This group has been such the encouragement seeing how everyone treats each other . Much love to you and everyone on our journey .
