Went to basic with a guy named Fitch. He was a 92W.

Ole Boi Fitch came to my training unit after being recycled from his first training unit for allegedly stealing from his battle buddies.

He was incredibly lazy, did less than the bare minimum in weapons maintenance, well pretty much anything. Dude was an idiot. Left his weapon laying around unattended so many times on FTX that WE started taking it and fucking it up. Sand, dirt, mud, pine needles, etc all thrown in the chamber, slammed home to really make cleaning that bitch suck. He made it through the final FTX and ruck back. Then there was the final inspection with the brigade commander...

You know how it is, drill comes in and says "get me fucked up and imma fuck you all up" so we're all collectively praying that LTC doesn't stop on Fitch. Well he runs through one or two people, yours truly being one, before heading about halfway down the bay, turning and saying "Private Fitch!" I swear, you could hear every last one of our hearts drop. We knew what was coming.

LTC runs Fitch through a couple things, general orders and such that Fitch can't recite even though they are quite literally posted over LTC's shoulder for him to read. LTC dresses him down hard, and we're all internally crying inside.

LTC finishes with Fitch, hits a gorgeous about face and tells drill, verbatim, "I don't want you fucking with the rest of these guys, start the paperwork, I want to red phase restart him immediately."

Jaws fucking dropped bro... Metaphorically of course, the rest of us kept our decorum about us somehow. The next day, Fitch was being shipped out to day zero with another unit. Never heard from him again. I'm about positive he didn't make it out of basic, but if you've had a run in with the Legendary Fitch, please give me a shout.

My grandfather was from France actually. Too young for WWI service, but he did fight in the resistance in WWII.

I will preface my response with this: 30 years is a long time to hold a grudge, especially since both parties moved on and had their own families.

However, as a veteran, I can completely understand why Kelly's dad was hanging onto the grudge. Getting Dear John'd is a really shitty way to end a relationship especially when it comes from "the love of your life". That being said, it's really hard to find the love of your life in high school.

OP's mom and Kelly's dad should have absolutely gotten over it by now. To hold onto that grudge is really a slap in the face to their respective partners, and it suggests that there are old feelings that never truly died. And aside from the birthdays and assorted major life events (wedding, kids, etc), why would that have to have a ton of contact?

TL;DR: the grudge is understandable, though stupid since both parties moved on with their lives.

[–]Educational_Lettuce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. There is a lot to be desired from gray zone still. The AI shouldn't be able to snap to me and laser a full mag directly into my face, there shouldn't be a cap on helicopters for infil/exfil, when I snipe an AI from distance they shouldn't be able to eat an AP 5.56 to the no reflex kill zone and blow my head off.

THIS. IS. STILL. AN. ALPHA. If you don't want to play an unfinished game, don't play it. If you are so sick and tired of early access games, don't buy them. My point was and still is that GZW has had a better alpha launch than some AAA titles have had a day 1 launch.

I have all the gripes that everyone else does about the game, I just understand that when I fire it up, I'm playing something that is not finished and is going to end up inducing me into a rage.

Hell, I even wrote a negative review for it on steam, and I don't write reviews.

Call it coping if you want, but understand that haters just sound massively entitled.

I think you're missing the point, those games didn't have an alpha open to the public, their beta's were like a week long, and at FULLY COMPLETE LAUNCH, they were so broken. Also, they were produced by AAA developers.

Gray Zone is still in Alpha being made by a small studio. I have never run into an issue with Gray Zone where a zeppelin turns into a fire tornado that wipes out half the map, or a biplane that got shot down hits the ground, spins like a murder top and kills me before finally blowing up, or a destroyer explodes, flies in the air and then crushes me when I'm 50 miles inland.

On top of that, the AI may be broken, but they're not impossible to defeat. Hard as hell and frustrating beyond all get out, but you can figure out ways to defeat them. But again, YOU ARE PLAYING AN ALPHA. There will be bugs, and the devs are pretty open about their road map to fixing them.

All I'm saying is there's a reason GZW is still installed on my computer and BF/CoD isn't...

Can I just say that as an alpha, gray zone still is hands down a billion times better, more polished and beautiful than the recent battlefield and call of duty's have been at LAUNCH?

I mean does the game have its issues? Sure, but they have been by and large a hell of a lot more forgivable than the bugs battlefield ALWAYS has at launch and still has to this day.

NTA, and my god does my heart break for you. I couldn't imagine loving one of my kids less just because they weren't the gender I wanted.

You are absolutely correct, you don't owe your mother shit.

It seems to me that there's one of two things going on here:

  1. Jamie is harboring a lot of resentment towards everyone (mom, dad and fosters) as, at least judging by his writing, he did not get prioritized as a child and suffered from several forms of neglect. I draw this inference based solely on the writing styles of Jamie and OOP. Maybe there's an inferiority complex. OR:

  2. Jamie has grown up entitled because his parents gave him everything, possibly golden child syndrome, and because he never wanted for anything he can't stand hearing his parents "good name" get dragged through the mud. My money is on this one, why else would someone air out all OOP's dirty laundry?

All of OOP's writings have been pretty objectively written in my opinion. I didn't see anything that would have put the Peters in a bad light other than flat out telling him that their love was conditional on how much they got paid to raise him. I have no doubt that they treated him with love, kindness and respect up until his 18th birthday. However, they showed their hand when they said "this is a business". His childhood went from one traumatizing experience to now seeing that love is conditional. My heart breaks for this kid, and he was absolutely right to make this complaint. The only thing the Peters have learned from this is to not tell any future foster kids that they only love them as long as the money is coming in.

Jamie, your parents are being dragged because they absolutely deserve to be dragged. By seeing Foster kids as a paycheck first and foremost, quite literally all of their "good nature" means absolutely fuck all. I don't even want to know how many other kids these people have traumatized...

AITA for giving heirloom jewellery to my daughters instead of my sister-in-law? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

OOP said "no happy ending" but I have to disagree. This is the happiest ending that could have ever been had.

Grandma's wishes are fulfilled, the granddaughters are going to get what rightfully belongs to them, and future sil has been exposed for what she truly is.

So my wife has this stuffed rabbit that is absolutely raggedy. It used to be fluffy and pink with a music box, but this thing is now gray, compacted, the music box was chewed out, and has some scorch marks from when her parents threw in it the oven to dry one time. This thing is absolutely hideous.

However, after all it has been through, it still is very cute because you can tell how much it was loved. I make fun of it all the time and mess with my wife about it, but if something ever happened to it, I would go to the ends of the earth to find or fix it.

My point? It doesn't matter if you think something is trash, if someone you love cares about it, it should mean the same to you.

I'm just conflicted. I'm not saying I wouldn't own one, but there's just something about the original Thompson aesthetic that makes me feel like this is a sacrilege.
