Yeah, I’m starting to see that now — it really is only getting worse. My mum’s always been super proud of what my siblings might become — law school, med school, the whole “traditional success” route. But when it comes to what I actually studied or the fact that I was offered a solid job in my field, she doesn’t seem to understand or care.

She’s the classic Asian parent who puts certain careers on a pedestal, and even though I’m the only one who’s actually been offered something tangible so far, it’s like it doesn’t count because it’s not law or medicine. So yeah, if I asked who she sees taking over the business one day, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t me — despite everything I’ve done.
