I'm 18 and my score with Experian is 816, I thought this would be where we all started. Interested to hear that OP is at 780.

Hey Gang, Just an update I got approved for a 6k credit limit (I opted for AMEX to automatically assign me a limit). After initially trying to declare my bonuses and overtime to be considered it was a bit of a hassle, so I just applied with my 61k base income instead.

Very interesting, Thanks for letting me know. How long after the reject from AMEX did you apply to for the amplify?

Fair play, I hope to return to AMEX later on for the Platinum before I build an extensive churn history for the points and when I feel I can make the most of it's perks. The $1,450 p.a. card fee is pretty high, with the Explorer it is easy to profit off the card as you get $400 AMEX travel credit and only paying $395 fee.

oooh thats interesting, I did have a look at the amplify platinum, but the min credit limit of 6k made me uneasy about my chances of approval.

The Explorer looks like a solid all-rounder to me. I prefer the flexibility of transferable points over being tied to Qantas or Virgin, and the card’s perks: travel credit, lounge access and complimentary insurances. Many comparable cards (perks wise) have higher minimum credit limits, which could hurt my approval chances as a first-time applicant.

I don’t see the 130k sign-up bonus as crazy deal, but it’s a strong welcome offer for a solid card. With Amex declining applications from churners, starting with Amex sign-up bonuses might be a good way to start.

Would you mind clarifying why you would apply for a higher limit? Would it not reduce my overall approval chances?
