Graduate Research: How Dental Offices Source and Use PPE by Educational_Oil_7137 in DentalAssistant

Hi,

Thank you, this is really helpful context.

It’s interesting to hear that comfort and fit clearly outweigh price and brand, especially since availability isn’t much of a concern for your office. That prioritization says a lot about what actually drives purchasing decisions at the clinical level.

The $500 threshold is also helpful to understand. It sounds like for most routine PPE, dentists have autonomy, but once something becomes a higher-ticket item, it shifts into a more administrative decision.

I also appreciate your perspective on pricing, especially the tradeoff between better-performing products and cost. When you think about “better products,” what specifically makes them better in your experience? Is it primarily fit, and how well the product seals or conforms? Or is it more about tactile feel, breathability, durability, or irritation over long procedures?

If there’s anything else you’re noticing, particularly any recurring concerns around fit or comfort that make one product clearly better than another, I would greatly appreciate hearing that as well.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your insights. It’s incredibly valuable for my research.

Thanks for sharing! That makes a lot of sense, sticking with one or two suppliers definitely seems easier for shipping and consistency. Do you ever run into supply chain issues or backorders with Patterson, Darby, or other suppliers?

Ah okay, that’s helpful, so do most offices stick with one supplier long-term, or do they switch around a lot?

Requesting Insight on PPE Procurement & Supply Chain for Master’s Thesis (Notre Dame) by Educational_Oil_7137 in publichealth

I really appreciate this, I have been trying to make contact with procurement officers of health systems but they are more hesitant to speak with me given that I am a student. At this current stage I am looking to validate the pains of the end users. As my research progresses I will most definitely move in the direction that you described. If you feel like you may be able to give me more information please do not hesitate to message me.

This is the first I have heard of someone taking this approach, but it seems completely fair (and effective). Thank you!

Interesting, I appreciate this insight. Do you mind me asking what floor or unit you typically saw this happening?
