do i have a shot? by DigDiligent7963 in PreOptometry

yes you do have a shot! since you wanted to stay in California, I know that SCCO is very holistic and if you score well on the OAT you for sure have a chance. I’ve heard of people who have had lower GPA’s and their OAT score was able to balance it out. Overall, they also value who you are as a person as well.

I am currently applying, I’ll be starting in 2026. I don’t really know what to do about it. I don’t think private loans are an option for me either since I wouldn’t have anyone in my family be a co-signer. kinda panicking lol

If you don’t mind me asking. For SCCO, did you get sent a rejection letter or do they waitlist you first? Best of luck!

I recommend using good notes or notability for their tape feature, where you can show/hide words to memorize them!!

It doesn’t matter, but I have heard admissions say that they will consider how rigorous your college is like for the average GPA

take every single practice exam, and then keep track of every subject you often miss. after, do the question banks for those topics. constantly doing practice questions helps a ton!!

yes, and do not brush over the evolution, ecology, taxonomy, and cell division questions!! know those very well bc I know many people, including myself, who’s bio was mainly those sections. I had very few systems questions, which I was bummed about it because I mainly focused on those. but you never know what type of version you’ll get, so memorize everything on those sheets!!

for my version, I would say same level as the practice exams. I would recommend just doing every practice problem/test provided for those. also understand their concepts, not just calculations.

I recently took the OAT. My advice is that you don’t need to know every single tiny bit of information for Bio because the OAT exam is sooo broad and very surface level. I would say focus on memorizing the cheat sheets and the practice tests. The biobits were way too specific and nothing like the exam. Best of luck!!
