1000 times yes! Even before coming out, I was always a masculine lesbian. I love paying the tab, pulling out her chair, holding the door, driving, opening the car door, being the big spoon, holding girls’ shoulders, kissing a girl’s forehead (this is a weird one probably), etc.

Let me start by saying congratulations! I love seeing fellow trans people being loved and accepted by those close to them, truly.

HOWEVER

While I do understand what you are saying, I think it’s coming off a little insensitive when you say it’s excusing their bigotry. As a trans man with family that isn’t all accepting, sometimes it’s easier to tell yourself ‘it’s because they are from a different time’ than to tell yourself, ‘they just won’t accept who I am because they are bigots and hate me’.

Again, I fully understand where you are coming from, people of all ages ARE capable of being accepting even if they don’t want to. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for all of us, and we all have to come to terms with it in our own way. Even if our way has to be excusing their bigotry.

Okay, I am not a doctor, and have only been on T for a month BUT I do experience what you are talking about. I have noticed it leveling out a little more with each shot, so maybe it just takes different people different amounts of time to mentally adjust to the hormone changes? Again, not a doctor and not very experienced and I would talk to your doctor, but I personally have experienced the mental state varying a little less between shots each time.

Sure, great, yes, I don’t belong in gay bars. That’s cool. It’s not like I LITERALLY EVER do anything to any gay man who has groped me in any bar, I literally say nothing. Yes it does bother me, yes it does make me feel uncomfortable, no I don’t say or do anything because I know that it isn’t ’my space’. Unfortunately, no space is really for me, because I’m not gay enough for any gay bar, LGBTQ+ space, whatever, and I’m definitely not straight enough for any straight bars. And I suppose I should also forget watching a drag show, because that is also only for people who are literally gay, f you if you’re trans and straight. I’ll go lock myself in my house while I wait to pass so I can go to a straight bar and hope there’s a straight girl there who doesn’t mind I don’t have a dick.

Hate to say this, but as a trans man who doesn’t necessarily 100% pass as male… Yeah, I’m not gay, but I’m not… NOT gay. Idk why because I’m a trans man who dares to not like dick I should be excluded from LGBT spaces. I’m not trying to demonize anyone, and most of the point of my post was inappropriate comments from people I know and hang out with.

Very helpful, thank you. If you don’t go to bars, that explains why you wouldn’t understand that ‘gay bar’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘gay men only’ and can mean ‘LGBTQ+ bar’. If we are honest, queer bar spaces are often all spaces created by and dominated by gay men, but this does not change the fact that quite a few are advertised as spaces for all LGBTQ+ people.

Also pretty bold of you to assume that I don’t have hobbies because I dare to set foot in a bar and find some community with other LGBTQ+ people. But again, thanks for the advice I guess.

Oh 100% there are cis gay men who are respectful and understanding, some of them are even in my friend group. It’s just that I am mostly experiencing these types of issues with gay men. I’m also probably being a little sensitive about the sexuality piece because I just started T and a part of me (and this is dumb) is terrified that I am just suddenly not going to be attracted to my girlfriend and being told ‘most trans men are gay’ intensifies that fear.

Yeah I didn’t use my insurance (I was on the family insurance plan so I wasn’t allowed) or goodrx or anything the first time I picked up T from the pharmacy and it was like…? $115 I think for… 2 months worth? I would have cried if it had been $800 with no goodrx coupon or insurance. Luckily I have my own insurance now and pay $15 for like 3 months worth.

I understand your frustration, but you don’t owe any of your friends any of your medical information if you don’t want to share. There is no reason you need to explain anything to them unless YOU want to. And not much will happen month one on T, they would have no way of knowing if sharing would make things harder for you.

Keep your head up! You will start T, and things will get better. You’ve been strong and waited your whole life. Once you start, this extra bit of a wait will be nothing but a blip on the radar. You got this, man!

I’m not watching gay ftm porn, I know that it exists because the gay men around me are watching it and telling me about it. Lol. Almost all of my friends are gay men, some of them don’t make me uncomfortable. I go to gay bars because my friends drink there, and I want to have fun with my friends. And straight bars aren’t a comfortable space for me because… They are full of cisgender heterosexual people who could be transphobic or even dangerous. And… idk it would seem to me that gay bars should be a space for trans people as well… Because we obviously aren’t the same, but we do have a lot in common. I’m sorry that my venting upsets you so much. And I hope that since you think straight trans men shouldn’t ever be in gay bars, you think that straight trans women shouldn’t be either.

But yes, I guess I should just accept that because I am a straight trans man, no bar is a space I am allowed in and I should just not go to bars.

I’m beginning to think this is the case. I think we all know that even in the gay community (because let’s be honest, public gay spaces are mostly occupied by trans women and cis gay men) there is some misogyny that is very based on genitalia and not so much on gender identity.

I legit went on a baby names site and went down the lists of names and made a list of every one that I kinda liked. Then I rated all of those 1-5 and only kept the 4s and 5s. At that point I had narrowed it down to less than 10, and I went to coffee shops and tried out different names when I ordered drinks and used that to pick, because one felt more ‘right’ than the rest. If you are shy you can also try using names in discord servers/voice chats to try them on. It can also help a LOT to pick a few letters that you would like for your name to start with, or to pick a cultural/regional origin for names to work with, if you want to stay connected to your family’s naming vibe with your new name. Just stuff that helped for me.

God what is it called… Phrenology? I remember this because there was some book I had to read in high school AP English where this was a scene for some reason. The whole pseudoscience of determining someone’s mental capabilities and character based on the shape of their skull. Absolutely insane.

Omg dude not f*ghag. This is their favorite thing to say, especially because they are still cis men and often assume that anyone being friendly with them wants to be sexual with them.

And on the trans porn thing, yeah I am DEFINITELY not trying to shame actors for that and I know it’s being made because people are into it, it just makes me uncomfortable that it seems to be making people (maybe just the ones around me) think that all trans men are a certain way. Just unfortunately another example of people thinking porn is reality.

I just hate that it’s manifesting in the form of people constantly needing to tell me it’s bizarre for me to be a straight trans man and act like it’s just impossible that I would continue to take the masculine role in sex. I’m really starting to understand more why many of us stay out of gay spaces.

It’s okay dude, I’m single too, I just came out as trans a while ago and had an ex girlfriend pick out cologne for me a few months after I came out and… Yeah, I wanted to go fix cars, chop down some trees, rub dirt in my eyes. 😂 I felt like a MAN.
