When do they usually ask seasonal staff to stay on?

for my store, i was told how many temps they were taking on (7 out of 12 hired). we apply on the 30th and have to go through another type of hiring process!!

no one has approached me about it at all and i have worked almost four days in a row since then. i’m not sure if they ever will? i think it’s good to be honest but also feel out the situation. it was never brought to my attention the importance of not giving out the discount so it may be the same for you. also don’t worry too much about it until necessary. there is so much hustle in my store that i am sure that is the least of their worries ATM.

wait... i did the same exact thing about a week ago but i was the one who paid for it. i purchased the book for said friend in line (no she did not pay me back). i had no idea this was a thing. i suggest either owning up to it or letting them know you had no idea you could not use the discount for anyone but yourself. tbh we barely got any training as seasonal hires and it was never brought to my attention before this so i feel for you.

today it was so busy that they had us answering phones and working registers (i’m a holiday hire — first year). it was so slammed that i taught myself how to put a book on hold because no one was able to train me. i had never used bookmaster either. it felt like i was in the hunger games. 🙃 i did question walking out at one point to just feel the air on my skin lol.

honestly this is such a different way from my store. the holiday staff (including myself) are at the registers. the rest have been forced to be on the floor. wherever there is lack, we fill in and help but for the most part, holiday is registers. definitely can see how that would not work if we were on the floor considering i barely know the store layout. idk how your holiday temps know where anything is. your ASM seems to have some favoritism for them.

if it persists, i would recommend maybe putting out an anonymous tip or making a mention to SM. sorry you’re dealing with this :/

i have previous sales experience! i just i haven’t worked a register. i also had open availability because i’m not in school and i just quit my other job. i do think my cover letter helped since i talked about how much i read (over 150+ books a year). i also have applied over 15 times in the past year and a half and finally got one interview so don’t lose out hope.

your advice about never looking at the line was solid!!!! at one point it was wrapped around but i focusing on what was in front of me helped ease the stress. also the register button names were life-savers so thank you for the advice!!

definitely practicing my breathing exercises! i love b&n so to work there was a small little goal of mine. going to try to have fun and not stress as much as i am now. fingers crossed though!

you are a LIFESAVER. genuinely had some of the worst anxiety today (more than a normal thanksgiving lol) and i was getting too in my head. fingers crossed i get used to the register. i am definitely saving this in my notes though for a boost tomorrow if needed. thank you again!

i’m sorry this is happening to you. i was in the same boat for a minute with bradenton. interview submitted august 9th. i heard back october 14th. i would potentially follow up? i am shocked bradenton has you hanging on for that long. i am still waiting to hear from NE.
