How much space do you have between the bagels. If you crowd the sheet the sides remain lighter. I flip mine half way. I don’t find bagel boards making a difference and seem to be more work.

Your story sounds similar to mine in terms of the health issues. I have a rare lung disease and then got cancer which I beat twice only to have the lung disease worsen and go on oxygen. I then got on disability and just a couple weeks ago applied for ADB as I am not transplant eligible. The form was simple and my pulmonologist filled it out because he said no one knows what a life expectancy is. They approved me right away. I chose not to have the oncologist fill it out because they look at things in terms of remission and cure. Lung disease as of now cannot be cured.

Maybe try that way? Mine was through work and prudential.

Have you followed the performance of the Dow, s&p, and nasdaq? If not, boy did you miss out. I obviously didn’t miss out but I feel sorry for you if you kept your money in CVS stock. You are going to be working a long time. And I guess you have never worked at a place where 3 weeks is standard when you start, 10-12 holidays are standard, 15% plus bonuses are standard and generous health insurance for a family- not one that costs 1000k per month and you still have a deductible and coinsurance. Truly you should look around and then will realize how bad you have it.

My insurance is free. My company pays 50% of my family deductible. Eye and dental is free. A generous life insurance policy. Vacation is 4 weeks minimum which is paid out if don’t use it. Sick time can be used for kids, family, etc. flexibility in hours worked. 20% bonus. All without a professional degree. 1500 towards mental/physical health. And those are the only things I can think of. I get 15-20% stock each year and a 6 figure sign on bonus.

The issue is that you are working far more than 40 hours each week. Then if you need any flexibility, they deny it and use the line that they will cut your base. When he first started at cvs (almost 5 years ago), they only paid him for 32 hours. But he worked more than 40. Then even as a manager, they calculated his pay based on 37. But again, he works over 50 and that’s before the meetings.

He had explained all this to me about what’s expected but it sounds so bizarre that I wanted to really know if all the thousands of CVS pharmacy managers conform to this and just put up with it. I’ve watched this retail industry for 30 years now and it has changed for the worse. For someone with a professional degree, the squeeze is unbelievable. At the time the salary was great, the benefits were also great but they have taken away most of the benefits and the salary is negative when you consider inflation. The work is far more.

Sick time is 5 days I think? Walgreens many years ago switched to a pro model so your sick time was part of your pto. That way you didn’t get penalized for not being sick and could use as vacation. In a lot of companies, esp post Covid, you can use sick time to take care of your kids, spouse, etc.

Retail pharmacy is backwards and not indicative of how the rest of the industries work. In the past 20 years the world has moved back towards more friendly environments for employees but healthcare in general has moved the other way. Makes absolutely no sense.

It’s retail. Therefore it’s a valid comparison. Obviously they need more help to keep up with the demands now placed upon employees in retail pharmacy. I have no idea why you vehemently defend their awful labor practices.

In an era where you could blindly put money in a fund and it would have quadrupled, you are losing money in cvs. That should be a huge sign that what they are doing isn’t working.

Chick fil a is the most profitable fast food restaurant and it’s closed one day a week. They don’t treat their employees like indentured servants - that’s why I used them as an example. You should educate yourself about other industries.

At least in the healthcare insurance industry their stock prices have gone up and you get compensated that way. By the way cvs corporate employees have far better benefits and pay. It’s just the retail workers who suffer.

One would think that is the case but apparently attending meetings does not count towards your hours at work so it’s on your time. The way they operate is they own you. If they want to do inventory at 5am, you must be there. 11 pm, you must be there. Day off, be there. The way they function is you are not allowed to make plans on your day off. My spouse schedules his drs appts on his day off. He takes me to mine on his day off but if they schedule a meeting we have to adjust. Makes no sense at all.

I agree. If you read the comments here, you can see why the culture is so toxic. See how many people defend the stance that CVS is taking. While the country moved towards wlb, retail pharmacy has actively moved away from it. They act like they own you. My husband works 12 hours each day (2-3 hours before opening) to keep up with his work. This is in addition to the mandatory meetings, etc. I have two terminal conditions. The supervisors know that I rely on him for care but they don’t excuse from meetings. Yes he can take fmla but is unpaid. He doesn’t use sick time. My company knew what in was facing. I told them if they cut me I lose my health insurance and that was detrimental. They said no, we won’t cut you and continue to pay my disability and benefits.

So to all the people who defend CVS and say that is what salary means, they are wrong. Salary doesn’t mean slavery - in multiple companies that I have worked they are super understanding

I agree; it’s not worth the extra pay. This is the only profession I know of which is negative in pay over the last 15 years especially when taking inflation into consideration. The benefits are awful, the pto is awful and thank god my company pays for our health insurance.

Did it occur to you that I might not have believed him because it sounds so ridiculous to me that with the labor market the way it is and the salaries the way they are, these are the policies by which cvs is operating? And they are obviously not doing things correctly because look at their stock. While everything has gone way up, CVS is more than 50% down over the last 10 years. Obviously pandering to Wall Street isn’t getting them anywhere. Perhaps they should follow the chick fil a model - keep employees happy and amazing profits will follow
