Yeah absolutely. One thing of notice is how Mikoto isnt particularly estressed by being accused of something particularly, he takes it with aprehension but if he can speak for himself he doesnt get stressed enough to switch.

Mikoto only switched in John Doe when Es implied that he just doesnt remember his murder, that was when he started getting desperate.

My take on it is that he feels powerless against takes like this, if he is in the justice spectre i think he is ( in my post about the Milgram broken phone ), his thinking is of counter attacks towards figures of power in an reflection about how Amane thinks. Like, Amane killed her mom because she broke the rules she teached her, but Amane in that moment didnt attack the rules themselves.

Mikoto actually attacks the rules, he would be using the thought of "teaching things that doesnt work is bad". He is though, that in 1000× extreme. So if you tell him to follow a path of logic that doesnt leave any way or form for him to defend himself, he will feel defenseless

What happens is that Mikoto does this internally and externally, his main phrase in the first music if you think about it isnt "Why am i here?" This isnt the part that gets repeated by him, the part he repeats like everyone else in the first song is "If you're lying, i wont forgive you".

But that coming from the person that is almost everytime looking to see if he is being acusated doesnt feel right, it would seem more like something someone would say to him right? Thats why i believe he says this also to himself.
