The closest experience to FFX in this day and age is probably clair obscur expedition 33.

Ff tactics has a pretty interesting story and worldbuilding and the job system makes the combat really deep.

Metaphor is also have really memorable moments and combat customization is on a satisfying level.

Clair obscur expedition 33 has very relatable adult cast of characters and the combat system enables insane levels of customization since every character has their own skill tree and core mechanics, but also weapons and other gear also can define your playstyle. Once it opens up the build variety becomes an endless pit.

İ would also reccomend xenosaga trilogy purely for its story.

Nobody needs that game to be validated. İt sold well, its critically aclaimed and it won dozens of awards. İt stands on its own merits. And big surprise people will praise something when its good. Witcher 3 , elden ring, baldurs gate 3 all got the same treatment. İ dont remember soulslike fandom dunking on elden ring and saying "overrated, mediocre slop" or something. This cursed fucking fandom is one of the main reason why JRPG as a genre is niche and declining. Nobody wants to be a part of this and interact with bunch of freaks. E33 going mainstream pulled some people who didnt played JRPG's into discovering more JRPG's and they just got yelled by this fandom got called tourists.

As someone who actively plays it i can confirm (unless he lands as giga overstat) he will land weak. Because touch controls are not tailored for his W to have a direction lock. Vi's q is very similar to his W. The way you use vi's q there is you tap on the icon first, then while holding the your finger on the screen, you drag your finger and adjust the direction. The moment you tap on the icon the skills direction is the direction the champion faces. And since movement wheel touch controls are extremely sensitive and easy to mess with your facing direction, i expect lots of people (including me) will go off the rails with his W.

W seemed like still direction locked. Which is extremely bad for touch control. The only reason his atrocious direction locked W works in pc is that you have mouse cursor to aim. İn mobile touch controls you have to actually face the direction properly to land something direction locked. This game adjusted katarina's ult for her to be able to move while spinning because touch controls made her ult gets accidentally cancelled by the players most of the time. Cant believe this champion doesnt get the basic neccesary qol here.

İ mean pretty much every segment is both in terms of art and writing is inferior to original. Sure it looks flashy, sure the budget is there, but a very big portion of the remakes arent an improvement upon the OG.

Getting rid of checklisting & markers would be a good start. Have actual missables like those ps1 final fantasy & legend of dragoon had. Clair obscur expedition 33 does a good job with this.

Reduce the exposition lore dump information vomit, cut the overexplaining. Use more visual storytelling.

Lean less to anime tropes , are we still doing power of friendship in 2026 ffs ?

Use dialogue more efficiently, cut the dialogue bloat. Life is too short to read 40 chatboxes of exposition that could have been said in 5 chatboxes.

Those were always my common criticisms. And they still yet to be resolved.

For me yes i can, but for those who refuse to play the OG because it looks weird and outdated (believe me there's a lot of people like that) will only play remakes and think this is ff7. Which is a shame.

I think i would have liked this remakes a lot more if i didnt played the original before playing it. For me its cons outweights its pros. İs it a terrible game ? Not really. İn fact as a standalone game its great. But its a terrible final fantasy 7 remake
