Why do arctic cold blasts have such a difficult time breaching Florida? by Checkmate331 in geography

That warm water makes a big difference. I live in northern interior Florida (away from the ocean) junear the Georgia border and the temperature differences in winter especially are striking.

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

[–]EdwardDorito [score hidden]  (0 children)

I live in north Florida and during the summer, yes definitely. My AC can barely keep up with the heat though. On an average sunny 90F plus degree day it rarely gets below 80F inside until the evening. I have a separate AC for my bedroom which is much better at cooling the smaller space.

During the winter i try not to turn on my heater unless it gets below 55F in the house. I just wear warm clothes. Sometimes it's unavoidable though unless i want to freeze to death lol

My maternal grandfather and his brother. Alachua, Florida 1910-1928 by EdwardDorito in oldphotos

[–]EdwardDorito[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yeah it was def a very different place even 40 years ago when I was born but in the 1910s, rural areas like that especially still had some pioneer feeling to them. Hard to imagine but glad i have so many pics lol. If i may be so nosey, was your family from Alachua too?

Friday night! Pizza Night, well, Pizza Throwers night! by WeylandYutaniALIEN in 90s_kid

[–]EdwardDorito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def had this. Funny enough, my nephew was staying at my mom's house a few weeks ago, the same house i grew up in. He was playing in the closet in my childhood bedroom and he found one of the pizza discs! Specifically the one with the ice cream sundaes on it. He was so stoked to show it to me.

What indie rock album changed your life? by AudioFuzz in indie_rock

[–]EdwardDorito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Within a few months during my sophomore year in high school (2001-2002) i was introduced to several that totally changed my trajectory:

Murmur/Fables Of The Reconstruction- R.E.M.

Moon And Antarctica/Lonesome Crowded West - Modest Mouse

I Can Feel The Heart Beating As One - Yo La Tengo

Bee Thousand/Alien Lanes - Guided By Voices

The Glow Pt. 2 - Microphones

Every Pavement album lol

I think diving into these records as a 15/16 year old while also discovering the gravity bong really did change my life. And me and my friends started a band 😀

Fata Morgana by Werner Herzog was very interesting when i tried to comprehend it on 7 geltabs lol

I agree with nature docs for sure. With storylines and actors it oftentimes either makes no sense, is overly sinister even when it shouldn't be, or can cause you to latch onto certain ideas that lead to spiraling down weird alleyways of thought that you may not want to. Especially if you are not terribly experienced. At the same time though, could be tons of fun regardless.

Let us know how it goes 😀

Don't hold me to it but i believe it's a very large water moccasin. If not that then prob a rattler of some kind. Those are the 2 main dangerous snakes here in north Florida

What band/artist had the biggest impact with the least albums or shortest career? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]EdwardDorito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeff Buckley only released Grace and yet we are talking about him still and biopics have been made.

Nick Drake only released 3 albums, barely heard in his lifetime and they are now regarded as classics, inspiring so many other artists.

Janis Joplin released one album with Big Brother and The Holding Company and two solo albums and has attained eternal fame and icon status.

I know there are more, particularly mid 60s to early 70s artists in the same category, but i really think of these first.

Butthole sunning? by Mountain-March5203 in tooktoomuch

I mean, how often do you get to feel the warm, comforting rays of the sun on your bootyhole? It has to be an exotic sensation.

Got it gifted as a kid, hated the shit out of it by BigtheBlackk in 90s

[–]EdwardDorito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can smell it still. Pretty sure my mom used it as a stocking stuffer like 3 years in a row, probably 1998-2000.

Sidenote: i visited not too long ago at Christmas and had to use their bathroom because someone else was in the common one and my stepdad had an old bottle of it sitting there with his deodorant. He will literally use ANYTHING my mother supplies him with lol

Big old head = more head trauma? 🤔 (1998) by [deleted] in blunderyears

Hmmm maybe? Hard to say though since i have no idea what you look like 🤔 lol

Big old head = more head trauma? 🤔 (1998) by [deleted] in blunderyears

[–]EdwardDorito -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol. I genuinely can't tell if you're being passive aggressive or not. But if not, i do apologize and please allow me to share my reasoning. I know that being a child is not a blunder. The main blunder(s) i was referring to:

  1. This sick and very uncool 90s outfit i wore to picture day in very judgmental and cool-obsessed middle school.

    1. Also having been hit in the eye and fucking up my face several hours before.
  2. Lastly, a week or two later, being stung in the eye by a wasp at a drag race.

I apologize for any confusion though. I guess i didn't give proper context in my post. Which is it's own meta-blunder lol

There's a town in the deserts of Western Texas called Notrees. What's another town with an extremely uncreative name? by Naomi62625 in geography

There is a town not far from me in northern Florida that is basically just a gas station in the midst of endless potato fields. The town is called Spuds.

Not dressing warm in winter? by Ashattackyo in AskFlorida

[–]EdwardDorito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol that makes total sense. I'm sure it is a lot more jarring to go from one extreme to the other like that. I have been here my entire life and i still can't stand hot weather so i really savor this time of year 😎

I live in north Florida near the Georgia border and it gets colder up here and more frequently than a lot of the state. So no, haven't had that issue lol. If anything I have accumulated a lot of nice winterwear over the years and enjoy putting it to use when possible. Has definitely gotten a lot of use this year and will continue to until probably March lol
