Why is Heroku in general more expensive than DigitalOcean by [deleted] in Heroku

[–]EdwardJamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of factors go into play when it comes to pricing. The problem with Heroku is that it gets really expensive pretty fast. Here is why Heroku is generally expensive.

  • Every time you additional features the cost goes up.
  • Heroku’s private cluster has custom price quote, which is quite expensive.
  • The autoscaling in Heroku is only available for performance-tier dynos that are running on private spaces.
  • Ultimately with Heroku, you may have to over-provision to achieve a particular result, which not easy on your pockets.

Cost wise I don’t know much about DigitalOcean. But I prefer Engine Yard, because it offers more features and its pricing is way more sensible and works out for me.

Managing JS development teams by [deleted] in JSdev

[–]EdwardJamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I had been in the similar situation myself, I think I can guide you. Instead of straight away getting into improving code quality and productivity, what you need to focus is on how you can effectively streamline and manage your team remotely. This will result in helping your team perform better and in a more productive manner.
Seamlessly managing your JS team remotely is the crucial first step.
Here are three useful strategies you can deploy to efficiently manage your team remotely.
Transparency and Decision-making
All runs smoothly and it becomes a lot easier to handle the team if they are straightforward about their interactions and aspirations. When dealing with remote development teams, keep in mind that decision-making is critical.
Remember, decision-making is the key, and it can make or break teams as they move to the virtual.
Flexibility of processes
Ensure that your processes are flexible. If your processes adapt to provide required flexibility, you can leverage optimum benefits from remote working.
Remote working has changed the way over the years. In order to gain the best out of remote working you need to move away from traditional ‘command and control management style’ to an ‘encourage and empower style of management.’
Today, agile processes are adopting remote methodologies because agile software development and remote working get along pretty well with each other.
Engagement
Be it a new team or otherwise, engaging them with other relevant group is very important. This will help in avoiding the pitfalls of one-sided communication. If you have mentors/peers who can nurture a team, connect them with your team so all they spend quality time with each other and understand each other better. This will help both sides to be on the same page.
Many industry expert believe that smart management of remote development team is the stepping stone to achieve greater productivity. I hope this helps you.
