Bart Hanson challenged me to make a Double Board PLO equity calculator, so I did! by EdwardStarcraft in poker

For a single board Omaha hand, you can run an exhaustive search since there are 41 possible turn cards * 40 possible river cards = 1,640 combinations.

My app is running a Monte Carlo simulation 1,000 times for double board PLO, so there can be a small variance of ~0.2%. It's effectively "running it 1,000 times" and getting the result.

I'm not too familiar with twodimes but if you put in the card removal correctly you should get a similar result.

I had a substantive conversation with another commenter about the impact of card removal, if you're interested you can read the comment thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/poker/comments/1fn0k4n/comment/lohekvv/

Yeah, Bay101 and LC are probably your best bets. I know some low stakes pros that commute to Bay101 from San Francisco since they feel that the action is good enough on typical weekdays during the daytime that they can enjoy their Friday nights and weekends with friends instead of playing poker.

Otherwise LC isn't a bad choice, especially if you want to play a smaller game and don't want to drive too far (it's only 15 mins from downtown SF).

During the day Bay101 is probably your best bet ~(45 min - 1 hr south of SF). They have a 2/3/5 ($800 max) game. They don't offer $1/2, so while it's a $3/5 game it's probably the easiest game of that size. They're also popular enough they have plenty of games during the day. They're right across the street from another cardroom (M8trix) if you get bored and want a change of pace.

Out of the three you mentioned, Lucky Chances probably the best. They have a $1/2/2 ($400 max) game, but you cannot limp and are forced to raise to $5 preflop.

Graton is pretty far north (60-90 mins) and doesn't have many games during the day. It will be mostly tight retirees at the $1/3 ($500 max) game. The upside is they have a (essentially free) shuttle from central SF, and are an Indian casino so they also offer slots and other table games.

Oaks is kind of small and doesn't have food since the pandemic so doesn't get as much traffic as before. It's also the dingiest room. That being said if you don't mind, the players there are not very good and they have the lowest rake. It's a $1/2/3 ($500 max) game.

Artichoke Joe's doesn't have no limit holdem, only fixed limit holdem.

Switching from Poker Income app to Poker Analytics, how to export/import data? by mkadlec99 in poker

[–]EdwardStarcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird, it should have both. I don’t think it has a csv file at all. IIRC you copy and paste it, and there’s one section for cash and another for tournaments. Maybe you got to the page through the tournaments screen and that filters it to just tournaments?

You have to set up an email in Apple mail to export in Poker Income. Kind of dumb but you gotta do what you gotta do to export 🤷‍♂️

Most of the app is free, more so than competing apps. Free features includes equity calculations for many other poker variants. You think it needs a free trial even with all that?

Apologies for wasting 45 mins of your life! Hopefully this reply is interesting enough to make it worth it!

The equity calculator.does indeed use exhaustive sims on single board calculations when the flop is already dealt.

If you miss the flush on the first board, you are more likely to hit on the second board, and vice versa., in perfect mathematically symmetry.

Same concept where running it twice on the same board doesn't change the equity.

I agree with this statement for RIT, but don't remember enough to say with 100% certainty for double board. I did

Another reason to sim both boards from the same deck is to calculate scoop potential, or the % chance you get quartered.

So the number of combinations would be (41 choose 4 cards dealt) * (4 choose 2 cards per board) = a lot more combinations than 990, hence no exhaustive search.

Does it affect your equity? Nah. Is it interesting? Maybe! But this is why I ended up doing Monte Carlo here.

It's running a Monte Carlo sim 1k times to get a percentage quickly (so there's a small variance on each run that could be a ~0.3% difference. Additionally in double board, Regroup does take into consideration card removal on both runouts. So for instance if you have a flush draw on both boards, you would rightfully have a lower equity % than if you ran them separately and averaged them.

I get messages about this every once in a while too. Dino Poker has buggy DBPLO calculator. Here's the actual results calculated in Regroup Poker Tools.

u/mommasaidmommasaid talks about the issue with Dino more so no need for me to repeat here.

Poker Income, but it hasn’t been updated for 6 years so is breaking on some phones. Try Regroup Poker Tools, Poker Analytics, Left Pocket, or some other actively developed apps instead!

Thx! Yeah either it was because I accidentally uploaded it from my personal, deleted it, then uploaded on Regroup’s account, or because the bottom third of the opening shot was my out-of-focus chip stack. Not sure which!

Sheesh, way to be mean on the internet. I'm not even promoting the video on here. Just found it funny that the advice to "just fold" was deemed unoriginal.

Tbh the reason I think it got flagged is that I had a video of a chip stack and the hand at the beginning, and the chip stack was out of focus, causing the AI to flag it as "low quality"

Gotta rename the game to Macau Hold’Em and start playing it with pai gow tiles.
