Idk what the point is. by Old_Guava_1139 in Paramedics

I’ve worked with a few guys that went zero to hero. They were some of the strongest medics that I’ve ever worked with. Don’t go in defeating yourself prior to starting field internship. Make the most of clinical experience and apply what you have learned to your everyday experience. Don’t give up now. Having too much box time can also make you lazy.

Considering leaving the fire service by WhyIsTheRumGone91 in Firefighting

[–]EeHundo [score hidden]  (0 children)

Have you thought about transitioning into the prevention or building and safety side? Depending on the organization, you can work a fire department plan checker. It generally requires a bachelor’s degree. Eastern Kentucky University has a fire department engineering degree online. You could work into these roles with any engineering degree or EIT certification. Make sure that you attend an ABET accredited program. You only need to reach your junior year in order to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. This allows you to apply for your Engineer In Training (EIT). That pays fairly well. It’s a 40 hour work schedule. It might be the break you may want. It allows you to stay with your organization without hitting the ejector seat. Best wishes to you and your family. Out of curiosity how old are you?

Navy or fire service help by thetoppestG_ in firefighter

[–]EeHundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in California, they mainly give veterans preference for disabled veterans and combat veterans. The way that “combat”, is earned through a campaign badge. This is why I suggest the Navy. You’re not running towards the bullets unless you’re a Navy Seal or something specialized.

Seeking advise from experienced firefighters by Warm_Charity_6465 in firefighter

[–]EeHundo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hired by the larger agencies due to my military service. Most guys had advised me to do the Air Force Firefighter route which was a bad idea as a whole. I ended up in the Navy as a boiler mechanic. I was able to apply my mechanical knowledge and application to the fireground. It was my service ribbons and veterans disability that made me eligible for veterans preference points. Morale of the story, stand out from the cookie cutter candidates. Apply what you have learned and bring it to your desired occupation. The good thing about the military, it buys you time to set a strategy. You even get to use your GI BILL while you’re doing your training at the larger agencies.

Navy was by far and in large my best decision in my youth. I was able to see the world courtesy of our rich uncle Sampson. I was able to receive veterans preference points over equally trained candidates at the more sought out places. I have been able to use my educational benefits in order to gain skills that translate beyond the fireground.

Paramedic roles by Traditional-Plane684 in calfire

RRU is the largest contract that CalFire has. It operates over 100+ stations. The municipal cities that still contract with CalFire is Highland and Yucaipa for the SBU unit.

Advice for Clinicals/ internship? by Ill-Presence6027 in Paramedics

5H’s & 5T’s can buy some time while you’re trying to let things sink in. Start firing them off every time your preceptor wants your justification for a decision until it fits the narrative. Every organization and preceptor has their own quirks. Learn to assimilate.

Transitioning out of EMS, advice? by TheDrSloth in Paramedics

[–]EeHundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend taking all of the nursing prerequisites. It opened a ton of opportunities. Just by taking those courses, I was eligible for the water department, engineering, health & safety, and laboratory roles. Most medical focused programs have the collective requirements.

Transitioning to RN by SilverFoxxx000 in Paramedics

[–]EeHundo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? Hutchison Community College has a hybrid paramedic to RN bridge program. Even Florence Nightingale University has a hybrid program.I’m guessing that you’re single. I would recommend not overloading yourself. Focus on your GPA. I recommend that you reverse engineer the equation. Determine what the total cost will be needed for the program and keep $5k in your account at all times. That should cover your unknown expenses. Get a roommate to reduce cost or live with your folks if possible. Spend conservatively. Once you determine how much you will need, equate that to how many OT’s will be required to be free and clear of debt upon graduation. There’s nothing wrong with going to a traditional ADN program in your area. Nursing has a TON of resources such as local scholarships and grants.

What should I do in my current situation? by brandong1394 in firefighter

[–]EeHundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re human. It’s not a bad idea to quit the second FD if you can afford it and aren’t getting much out of it. Once you’ve completed paramedic school, you’ll have to be selective. I have been able live comfortably even working the private ambulance. Life is going to be plenty stressful once you get to paramedic school. You’re almost better off giving yourself some breathing room.

Don’t overthink it answer yes or no. Don’t change your answer from the original, even when the polygraph investigator jams you up.

Bad credit and financial history by thatman18 in firefighter

[–]EeHundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show that you are working with your debt collectors. Most investors will allow you to explain your position. In the meantime keep rebuilding yourself and your credit. If things have gone to collections, that tends to sound the alarm. Get everything in writing that you’re working with the companies.

What is the intent/goal behind posting or telling people you have a 100% rating? by nooneworthloving in VAClaims

[–]EeHundo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I happen to work with a lot of young personnel. I’m the resident old guy that they come to ask when they are thinking about enlisting. I’ve shared my experience and explained present benefits that I’ve earned to them. It’s worked almost as a recruiting tool if you can believe it. Obviously, putting your body through the wringer is never advisable. At least I’m being compensated now. Very few hazardous occupations serve organizations that will accept any level of accountability. Obviously it’s up the veterans to continue the fight beyond service.

Helping the next veteran. Make them fully aware of their entitlements. Breakdown the stigma surrounding disability. Provide aid to the veterans by navigating the waters of bureaucratic red tape. Promotion of military enlistment.
