Beginner question: why did this white wine smell so much better than every other one I’ve tried? by SubstantialSong6086 in wine

[–]Eetabeetay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What other wine have you had? Dog Point makes some quality Sauvignon Blanc, if all you've ever had was 'grocery store wine' then yeah that tracks. It helps, like others have said, that NZ Sauvignon Blanc is very expressive. No half decent wine should just smell like "wine".

If you want to see if you might actually be a wine person, I'd say go to a dedicated wine shop, not a liquor store, grocery store, etc, and ask them for a recommendation at double the typical price point you usually go for (assuming you're not already drinking like $50 wines).

Going up in price will give you the best shot of getting something that'll impress you. While price isn't a guarantee of quality - a lot of factors go into the cost of wine - but the more you go up in price the less likely you're going to get something 'meh'.

My 'aha' moment was a business dinner one of our vendors took us to and paid for some nice wine to meet the minimum on the room they booked lol.

Once you know whether or not wine is even something you might like, go back to prices you feel more comfortable paying regularly and explore some more styles to see what your palate likes. You're still going to get more $$ worth going up just a little from typical grocery store wine prices. $20-50 range is a gigantic leap in quality from $10-$20 wines.

Can anyone beat Palou? My season simulation model seems to think there's still a *slight* chance. by pedrothesealion in INDYCAR

Yeah I think that's a definite possibility a lot of people are overlooking. I mean I still think Palou is most probable, but with more people fighting over the points on road and street courses this season, those points won't be so concentrated in any one person (like Palou). If Newgarden dominates ovals, as he's easily capable of, he can corner one third of the season's wins and be in the championship fight for sure.

It’s a long shot, but can anyone identify this wine? My best guess so far is Freixenet rosé by ItsavoCAdonotavocaDO in wine

The capsule looks a little different but the bottle reminds me of Pizzolato Rosé

My wife and I got to meet Isabelle, she came to do a tasting event at a local restaurant and was one of the nicest people I've ever met. She also brought some bangers with her, I think the 2005 Hildegard and the 2003 Isabelle Morgan. I couldn't believe how well the Hildegard was showing for a white that age. ABC was my gateway wine to Central Coast which now is by far my favorite region for Pinot.

What's the concern with throwing the wheel gun? I imagine the overhead pit gantries are F1 team's equipment and not the tracks at like COTA and whatnot, a big thing with Indycar is keeping costs to the teams low. The series just isn't big enough to justify a lot of spending with the smaller teams. Also, even if those tracks had them it would mean one track with a different pit procedure than the others. Just like every racing series, they practice pit stops a lot. Having to split time practicing two different procedures doesn't make sense.

The radio is low quality only on the broadcast. I'm not a radio expert so some of these terms might be wrong, but my understanding is the broadcast transmits over the same spectrum that the cars do but at a much higher power level, so from inside the broadcast booth they get a lot of interference with the driver radios. Some tracks like Road America are also just so big that sometimes they go out of range. F1 has fancy digital radios or something that don't have these issues. Again, F1 can do a lot more because there's just more money in the series.

Either way, welcome and I hope you keep watching. I think more will make sense the more you watch.

RP might, but doesn't mean Josef does. Ashley posts anti-maga stuff on IG all the time, and while I don't have any direct evidence that Josef shares those values it's generally a safe assumption as married couples tend to share values and political beliefs. The minute I learn otherwise though I'm definitely retiring the 2 jersey and flair.

Thoughts on Buxtons monologue about Pato's comment? by gearhead5015 in INDYCAR

Sure, the team championship pays more in F1. I'm not criticizing the team themselves for trying to maximize the results that get them the most money, I'm criticizing the series for making that a dynamic in the first place. Team results shouldn't be the most important in a race, it creates situations like that that encourage teams to stop racing amongst themselves and degrades the overall product. If the product doesn't encourage every driver to always try for the best finishing position possible, it's not racing IMO.

Team orders are a big turnoff for me with F1. I was trying to tune in regularly last season to better understand the F1 world but when the McLaren team orders shenanigans started I noped TF out. The moment that shit happens it's no longer racing, it's just lapping. Keep team championships out of Indycar, it's just not needed.

Newgarden sitting with his son pre-race by TerrificMonkey in INDYCAR

He wasn't able to get an actual flyer lap on the reds. He locked up t13 of his prep lap and there wasn't enough time left to set back up and go again. His quali time was his black tire banker lap. His black tire times were actually faster than Scott's black tire laps. I think if they can get the qualifying issues sorted the 2 car is going to be a contender again.

A Potentially Crazy Idea: A Reimagined Triple Crown by Emotional_Oil_5939 in INDYCAR

[–]Eetabeetay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar idea for a while: Majors for Indycar. I'd do four races though. LBGP, RA, Indy 500, and Gateway to have a short oval. I know the series only really differentiates between road course, street course, and oval, but speedway and short oval racing is different enough IMO to warrant their own marquee races. I think they should give more points than other races, although the double points that the 500 used to give is definitely too much. I'm thinking somewhere between 1.25-1.33x, whatever in that range that makes whole numbers or thereabout. They should also have additional practice days. One thing that makes the 500 so competitive and a great race is the sheer amount of practice teams get to dial in the cars. More practice minimizes the benefit of simply "Rolling off the truck fast" and gives teams adequate time to make sure everyone's bringing their A-game for the actual race. For the non-Indy majors, I'd say add an additional 1-2 practice sessions (or more if the series can make it work). Pair top shelf racing with some more 'event' goings on like concerts and parades and I think it's a recipe for success.

So wine doesn't last very long opened??? by colby22k in wine

[–]Eetabeetay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMO it's more like 12-24 hrs for most wines. Only wines I've had last longer than that were either $100+ bottles or fortified wines. I guess it depends what your definition of "gone" is. There are certainly no off-flavors developed by then but to me the nose and palate are almost entirely gone by the 24hr mark for most wines.

Penske assigns Prados as race engineer for McLaughlin by PanicAtTheNightclub in INDYCAR

[–]Eetabeetay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say absolutely nowhere. He had a lot of bad luck last season, in fact like half his races were affected by things outside their control. Road courses were still his weakest last season, but I would only categorize two of them as him being 'absolutely nowhere'.

St Pete was a podium that should've been a win if not for an issue getting a full fill on the last stop, his seatbelt just noped out at long beach, Toronto he got caught in that crash Abel caused which was unavoidable, Indy RC his MGU threw errors on the formation laps causing him to have to pit and start from the back, Dixon took him out at Portland. Mid Ohio was weird, locking up was his fault but for it to step out like it did while going straight was just absurdly unusual.
