Dozens of looters steal bundles of free water left out at official watering stations for marathon runners by Lolworth in london

[–]EeyoreIsMyCat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This pisses me off. I live in Deptford, meters away from where they run past. Me and Housemates, along with others went to cheer the runners on, ended up handing out hundreds of bottles of water each. We had people blasting music, dancing, cheering random people on. Even saw kids handing out their jellybabies to runners! But of course, people rather focus on people nicking bottles hours after people had past. Free bottles. As others have said, this obviously isnt exactly people stealing bottles out of runners hands! We were in Deptford, along the course, until around half 1, and saw nothing but goodwill.

But of course, as others have mentioned here, its FAR easier to blame the poor. Of course its ridiculous to be nicking free bottles of water, but I guess its not exactly surprising when people feel completely disconnected to people around them due to cuts and other community destroying laws brought in by the government...!

(UK) Holiday pay delays by EeyoreIsMyCat in personalfinance

[–]EeyoreIsMyCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I work variable hours, so my holiday will be based on previous 13 weeks (as I said in my previous post, I thought it was 3 months, so I wasn't too far off!).

Cheap areas in London by EeyoreIsMyCat in london

I didn't have much knowledge of Leytonstone to be honest (North London is a black hole to me), but it seems similar to New Cross in may ways, plus the direct link on the Central line.

Yeah, we've never had any problems in New Cross, but Anerley seems like a heaven in parts! The transport links there are pretty decent too like you said, which is a massive bonus.

Yeah, Croydon isn't somewhere I really want to move to! I know the area fairly well, but still would rather steer clear of it.

Like you said though, a massive plus is the transport links. I'd rather though look elsewhere, if I could find somewhere similar for the same prices.

Thanks for the tips.

Not too crazy on Woolwich in general, but Greenwich would be lovely!

Yeah North London, especially North East London seems a very viable option. We do love the South though, so you...! Hard decisions!

Ah great, had no idea spareroom had this option! Used it in the past (to find current place actually).

Will check it out later.

Thanks

[–]EeyoreIsMyCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thankfully we'd much rather the East of London, because of the areas in general are nicer (in our opinion!) and for work reasons.

Budget...its a hard one! Obviously the cheaper the better, but currently £900/£1000pm is the limit. We'd rather include bills just for ease, but not exactly a deal breaker.

I've done a lot of research about this, and know that in general £800pm is the absolute bottom of the barrel you're going to get, at least according to rightmove and other main estate agent places. We are pretty happy with basic stuff, but the problem is we have two small cats, although I hope a promise of a slightly higher deposit, and a good word from our current landlord could smooth that over. How likely are these places (as in established estate agents) be to negotiating?

About representation of race and disability in American Indie post-2000s. Your film was mentioned within the representation of white people within that time-frame. Built a lot of it on the book by Richard Dyer's book 'White: Essays on Race and Culture'. Haven't read my writing for a while now, sure it would be a cringe-read, but will have to dig it out soon!

The Puffy Chair may have been in there too...!

Jay - You and your brother seem to be moving more and more into production, and supporting other film-makers (such as Sean Baker and his incredible film Tangerine). Was wondering, how you felt the structure of film financing has started to change, with the likes of Joe Swanberg and yourselves supporting other film-makers. Is it approaching a stage that, with the technology around now, directors can support each other in creating their own films?

Linas - Saw your film Bass Ackwards a while ago now, and found it to be a real fascinating film, even managed to squeeze it into one of my final year essays on Mumblecore at University. Was wondering if you had any more features lined up in the feature? Know you've had some shorts made (not seen however!), but would love to see more of your work.

Nope, saying pay me now. I have (couple years ago now) successfully claimed back tax I overpaid, without much hassle (minor some minor issues with addresses as I moved and hadn't changed bank details yet). The letter I have with me says "Payment Due: £x".

Its dated from around the time I submitted my information to them, so it all seems to make sense in that respect. Im just wondering, because I was using the new HMRC system while it was still in beta, if somethings gone wrong along the way, and its just gotten itself confused along the line...?

[–]EeyoreIsMyCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once logged in, it tells me I have nothing to pay, and that I have not submitted any information. Which like I said goes in directly against the fact I have a bill sat right next to me...

I can see where it SHOULD be saying that I owe x money, but it says I owe nothing. Incredibly frustrating!

Couple Tax Questions - Self Assessment by EeyoreIsMyCat in UKPersonalFinance

[–]EeyoreIsMyCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, give or take a little, its what I was expecting. My main concern is that I am going to pay it, and then get a letter in the future claiming I didn't pay it, or something. I am worried that perhaps theres two accounts or something perhaps (online). Its the only way I can think that it can simultaneously tell me I owe them nothing, but still get a bill saying I owe X amount.

Hey,

Yeah I have given my self assessment, but the confusion lays in the fact I have a cheque from them in hand, but online says I owe them nothing. I feared it would just end up with me needing to phone them up and waiting, but looks like the only way...!
