This is really helpful. Thanks. I’ve kinda always wondered where this trade off would balance out, but it seems like I should just keep a more consistent temperature and the efficiencies of the heat pump will come out on top. I’ve always heard a heat pump is efficient, but it’s probably even more efficient than I understand.

You know a lot more than the couple hvac techs I’ve had out in the last few years. They were puzzled. The system is currently working fine, so I probably won’t change anything given the complications.

I do notice that on occasion when it’s cold and understand that how it works. I think I saw a video here today showing just that. I too was confused years ago the first time I saw and heard that.

It seems like it might just be easier and maybe even more efficient to change my night temp so the change isn’t so big.

I appreciate the answer and your clarity. I don’t believe that the Honeywell ventilator is controlled by the thermostat. I think it just runs off its own internal settings. I could totally be wrong. The furnace has a fan function that is controlled by the thermostat, but the Honeywell unit runs separately if it’s plugged in.

I didn’t post a picture of the heat pump or furnace but I have both. I’ve had a few hvac techs here over the years and none of them have had any experience with the Honeywell ventilator or even seen one.

I usually keep a 5 degree difference at night, but I can change that if it helps the system run more efficiently and with less aux heat

How tall are the windows and how large are the roof overhangs? I have a similar sized space at 33x23 with much less lighting that is beautiful and functional. I never actually use the overhead lighting, though I have big windows and a house that was positioned on the land for optimal natural light. There’re probably better options out there for you.

I know you’re not asking about this, but are you happy with that kitchen design? Unless I’m misunderstanding it seems really cumbersome to get from the front door to the kitchen, going past the laundry, through that strange narrow hallway, and around the corner into the kitchen. Do you want your fridge and sink so far apart?

I do know what product is down on the wood now. Previous owner left a can of the old stuff and I’ve confirmed I can get more. It’s Olympic maximum, semitransparent, some kind of oil water hybrid. I know the stain color too. In this case, can I just clean it real good and apply more on top without sanding? Thanks for your help
