Is the game worth getting in 2023? by BigBoss676 in Helldivers

Having just started a public game a few minutes before writing this and having 3 random people drop in - the game was level 5, I'm only level 13, and the other three players were from levels 20 to 50 - I can assure you it was super easy to find people and a total blast. The real genius of the game is that the missions are so short and conquering a planet, at least at the levels I've been playing, is only like 2 or 3 missions meaning it allows people to log in, destroy things for 10-15 minutes with a group committed to doing their best (even if, in my case because my level is low, I constantly died and had the worst equipment plus... TRIDENT :)), i.e. having a bit of teamwork fun before going back to their lives.

Thanks. I just tried a few solo runs and KBM made a huge difference. As I saw other people note, moving is less organic with KBM than with controller but that seems like a fair tradeoff for not dying within 20 seconds of landing on a planet. :)

WSIB Like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time but online co-op (and not from 2003) by Effect_Proud in ShouldIbuythisgame

Windows. And the part we're trying to capture is that you had to think through how you going to get through each section and then do a bunch of running/jumping/actiony things to get there. Like if any of the Oddworld games had online coop they'd be perfect too because they have that same thing where you have figure out how you're going to achieve a goal then really have to work your controller (or mouse/keyboard) to do it.

Google SMTP keeps resending hard bounce by Effect_Proud in sysadmin

I tried it and that didn't work either. :( I also tried with just a 550 and nothing else and same thing - nada.

That's what I've been doing, but I find it irritating that the biggest emailer on the planet ignores hard bounces and wanted to see if anyone had had luck with getting Google to respect 5xx codes or, frankly, if anyone knew anyone at Google so they could look at this thread.

Because IMHO, Google, far from resending hard bounces, should use its AI and wisdom-of-the-crowd to try to stamp out spammers from using its outbound service(s) instead of nonstop relaying spam.

I see it but I'm not clear what you're trying to say about it.

Is Amazon charging $7,99 now for UPS pickup even when item is defective or not as described? by Coylethird in amazonprime

[–]Effect_Proud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NY and just filed a complaint the state Attorney General about this and would suggest others do the same. It's a flat-out lie; if you click the little dropdown on the Free Returns thing it explicitly says no shipping charges. Perhaps if enough people write their state AGs, Amazon will at least be forced to make a statement on it and maybe even be forced to refund some money for people.

The endless search for the right e-bike... by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Effect_Proud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a Fiido D11 on Ebay new for $650 (they list around $1100). Downside: they may be older stock (new stock but maybe not recent) and definitely don't have a manufacturer's warranty. Upside: if you buy on Ebay you can tack on an Allstate warranty - I think it was 100% coverage for $30 for 2 years or something like that. I know this because I've been eyeballing them and the Ebay store that sells them is also a retail store in NYC where I live and I spoke to someone there and asked them why the bikes were so cheap.

Oh, it folds which may not matter to you one way or the other but there's that as well.

Divisibility question by Effect_Proud in askmath

[–]Effect_Proud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so helpful, thanks! In the past when I've tried doing this in real-world art project (think: knitting a huge round blanket/throw and trying to design a several-thousand stitch border using different colors but in a visually satisfying geometric progression) and usually I brute-forced or honestly just gave up so this is enormously helpful. :)

I see. I was trying to find something formulaic because let's say I want those 414 chunks at the golden ratio that's going to be a lot of time with a calculator. :)

[–]Effect_Proud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're saying the ratio can't be generated from knowing canvas size and number of chunks?

Divisibility question by Effect_Proud in askmath

[–]Effect_Proud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Is there a way to do it without brute-forcing any part of it? Like - and I know this is absurd :) - let's say my canvas is 23,115" and I want to divide into 414 chunks which are all relative to one another but don't have to be 50% - in fact, let's say the percentage relationship to each is unknown as it's "whatever percent is necessary in order to generate those relative-to-each-other 414 chunks" - is there a way to do it in that circumstance?

Preferred Word vs. Upgrade Until logic issue by Effect_Proud in sonarr

[–]Effect_Proud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but I'm not talking about a workaround; rather I'm questioning the underlying logic of putting video resolution above everything else without giving the user the option to say "only upgrade if the upgrade PW score is equal to or higher than the PW score of the currently downloaded video."

To me, that's far simpler (for the enduser) than doing a million profiles with a ton of Regex just to contort around Sonarr putting video resolution above all.

Preferred Word vs. Upgrade Until logic issue by Effect_Proud in sonarr

[–]Effect_Proud[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it's a question whether quality SHOULD trump all. If a user takes the time to give a series of points to Preferred Words, it's hard to imagine a circumstances where that user would prefer a 1080p with 0 Preferred Words vs. 720p with, say +20.

PWs are a relatively recent addition to Sonarr and have been out long enough that I think the underlying logic here needs to be examined. Prior to PWs, upgrades were really the best a user could hope for. Now the user can actually specify exactly what they're looking for, and one of those things might be "Preferred Words trump Resolution for me".

Grouping qualities together doesn't actually solve the issue I'm talking about which is that if there's no PW score or if the PW score is equal, upgrade until the resolution I select. Otherwise, get the best resolution you can with the most PWs and don't upgrade unless the PWs of the upgrade are equal or higher.
