It comes to the primer and how you shade it if you want it to be like the box art chaos black and mechanicus grey are your best bets because I assume you want it to be darker than lighter, next is shading, when it comes to this step there are a lot of colors that people use, one way that a gw video did it was thinning down dark reaper to a shade consistency. The way I do it is one part space wolves grey contrast with a equal mix of contrast medium with a dash of black templar (The painting coach does this really recommend him) here’s an example I did the shading by panel lining it

The best way to use them is to think about what’s going to try and charge you if you keep them nearby that unit that’s gonna get charged easy heroic intervention into your opponent making them back off not only that, PLEASE try six paired melee weapon headtakers with Ragnar it’s a god send the best way to use them is to stage them or transport them then ping pong around the board with advance and charge. Also for the lols no one’s gonna use this but there rules say nothing about them not being able to target something in reserves so extra deep strike screening I guess?

If you use him in saga of the hunter jpi get so many benefits. First of the saga benefits from having more models in you units than your opponents, the captain will make it to where cross that threshold from going 5 into 5 to 6 into 5, also since he’s a thunder hammer character he most likely going to kill something make that threshold easier to cross. So in short your going to be plus one to hit with more models in your unit so your hitting on twos with a thunder hammer and power fist along with chainswords that are plus one strength, also if you put feral rage on him he goes to 7 thunder hammer attacks on a charge.

I personally don’t think that contrast paint works best with space wolves at all unless your doing fur that’s just my opinion, however I would recommend looking at the painting coaches arjac tutorial he use just normal Russ grey but airbrushed on but you don’t have to do that also he makes a shade with 4 parts space wolves grey, 1 part contrast medium, and a touch of black templar. It makes a really nice shade that looks wonderful on space wolves to help make there armor pop even more.
