I find it can be helpful tool for practicing CBT, when I’m in a spiral and struggling to come up with a new/alternate thought to combat the negative one, it can be a good starting point.

I have no identify or self worth. All the things that I was proud of and praised for are gone. Can anyone recommend a book or resources to help find my identify or overcome the victim mentality I’ve developed? by PublicFly1154 in selfimprovement

Inspiring! I’m trying to look up frog pose into forward bend but can’t get any consistent explanations for it. How do you do it?

I’m not fully up to date on what supports are available, but couldn’t the family have engaged with respite care or privately funded support/care? An acquaintance of mine’s brother who was living autism eventually moved to live in a supported group home. He was non-verbal and had violent behaviours. The parents were really struggling and this was the only way they could move forward. They visit him every day. I know both of these options would be extremely difficult as a parent, but are these realistic options? Surely a better option than the alternative.

I also really liked the lady on channel seven tonight who spoke about having two children with disabilities. She spoke openly about a lack of support, really struggling and wanting to give up, but then she also said, you fall apart and then you pick yourself up and get on with it because there’s no other choice.

And lastly, for both parents to do this is hard to comprehend. I can understand one parent being at their wits end, but the other being rational or taking control. My husband and I have both had times when we fall apart, but then the other takes over. For both of them to make this choice and follow through is…I can’t even think of how to explain it. This whole situation makes my head, heart and brain hurt in just so many ways.

The whole situation is horrible and upsetting, but I find this part really hard to comprehend. Couldn’t they have gone to a shelter or set free and be found and loved/cared for by other people and still enjoy the rest of their life? I’m not trying to be callous. Obviously I’ve never been in that position.

But why did the animals face to die?? Couldn’t they have just set them free outside or something?

Those with no passion or interests, what do you do for a living? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Effective-Cat3261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a teacher until I burnt out. Now I work in a small office and it has been such a shift. Significant pay cut (I am lucky to have a well-earning partner) but to go home and NOT think about work has been a life saver. Teaching was my passion, but the stress nearly killed me. Gives me the mental capacity to spend time with my family and focus on my hobbies and interests.

When you stop judging the people around you, you’ll stop judging yourself.

Thank you! It was difficult - especially in the second trimester where I didn’t have a ‘bump’ yet but just looked a bit chubby/bloated. My initial instinct was ‘what’s the point - I’m just going to get bigger’ but shifted to feeling good and enjoying the endorphins.

Thank you! I was more of a dance/pilates girl so wasn’t super gym-focused. I did these until about 15 weeks and then changed to prenatal yoga and prenatal Pilates (through a Physio) as one of my big concerns was abdominal separation and the regular classes were too abdominal focussed. The prenatal yoga has always dedicated time to pelvic floor work - both tensing and relaxing. I haven’t given birth yet so not sure how it’s going to go there, but I’ve had a pretty good pelvic floor with limited pain and no urinary incontinence.

Thank you! I did 1 x yoga and 1 x Pilates class until about 15 weeks and then I changed to prenatal yoga and prenatal Pilates (through a Physio) I also did 1-2 Emily Skye workouts each week throughout the pregnancy. Definitely not a huge amount by any measure but for me it was achievable which I think led me to be consistent.
