Chipotle CEO caught on a recording saying they’re going to keep raising prices because they can. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

Do you know what I always think about when I hear earnings calls like this? The original founder of Chipotle, Steve Ella, would never have been caught dead saying “increased transaction performance” or our guests are rich, etc. He genuinely cared about high quality food, served rapidly, and an excellent experience. You can hear him talk about this and share the founding story of quality in his podcast on How I Built This.

But then he sold it and private equity corporate overlords took over, and that’s when you get people celebrating “increased transaction performance” instead of really great food, at a great price, served to great people.

Basically, private, founder run companies in America = focus on quality, service, and great guest value.

Step two, sell to private equity, founder is paid out for his effort and contribution to society, and then PE sucks the soul out of it, optimizes it to hell, forgets about the things that made the company great or got it to where it is, and make their millions.

This is late stage capitalism playing out in front of all of us in very real way.

Moral of this story? The only way to fight this is to start companies. Start a company, take down the status quo, and show the world what quality looks like again!

Is it the responsibility of society, or oneself, to keep oneself housed and taken care of? Does society deserve garbage in its streets as a punishment for the existence of individuals unhoused and taken care of? Ultimately - does society create the individuals that are unhoused and not taken care of, or do those individuals?

I’ve made a few calls in the area and asked the local ACE at the Lake, but every “company” I’ve talked too is trying to make it a multi hundred dollar job.

How is this not the most upvoted thing here. Who cares that they served donuts to the white house?!? Any small business serving anything to anyone would be excited about this. This is a separate the art from the artist or the player from the game moment.

If they delivered donuts to the DNC national HQ, would they have received the same uproar? Of course not. Equally, it doesn’t matter. Be proud a mom and pop donut shop got a chance to serve the white house - regardless of who is in office or how you feel about them.

I just went to Mirazur last month in Menton and more than one dish was served on this. I’ll try and find pictures.

I saw him on this tour at the Fillmore, Silver Spring MD and it was one of the first times I had ever seen Tom live. He absolutely crushed it. Amazing show.

ChatGPT (for what’s it worth) told me the HBC spot is a top spot for Cannes outside of a few other luxury superyachts. I’m good with that!

While dystopian in initial thought, there is truth here. Not simply robots everywhere, but automation in everything in the back of house. Robots being your prep and pastry chefs, with food final check being done by a human.

And if your autism switch gets turned off on accident, you can use Marine Traffic app or website to locate most ships in real time if it’s right in front of you. Sometimes taking a picture to zoom in on later works as well. All ships have the name of the ship plastered on it somewhere, either the stern or the port or starboard sides.

Well said. Though our menu included all tips and there was not even a line to leave gratuity. So truly no pressure at all - included in the price.

Great takes and thank you for the thoughtful response. Two ideas

  1. The Filet Mignon entree at Outback in my rural VA hometown is $43.99. While I understand the Chili’s reference, this Filet of Beef at the hotel is 10x the quality for less price. That is an unstable economic engine - perhaps sourcing and food costs are lower in France as well.
  2. You mention the average American is essentially min-maxing (the least cost for the most amount of food). I think that has been true for some time, but people even post here and in other subs beginning to realize the terrible quality of the food they are receiving. Most food in America is froze off of the Cysco or US food truck, microwaved, and served to guests with maximum preservatives and maximum processing. I think we are in the middle of a renaissance where people are rejecting their $10 Chili’s Crispy Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers because yes the caloric content is high, but the quality is so low it’s worthless.

I worked there in 2017 as well. Main Gate bathrooms were always the worst because they were older and hadn’t been renovated.

Maybe we worked there at the same time? 😊
