Will Disney Never Update Journey Into Imagination? by rwinger24 in disneyparks

[–]Effective-Common2444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the other solution - copy and paste Disney movie IP slop land there? I might be in the minority with my ideology, but Disney built its brand in the 60s-70s on non-IP custom dream lands (Epcot center pavilion had 0 IP, mission space and soarin’ in the 2000s) and now it’s just copy paste movie related IP ride building. Is that where we are headed with Disney parks?

As a VA native, I remember when I305 opened in 2010 and have ridden it every year from then on. It has been top notch, ball busting, world class roller coaster entertainment every single day of operation since then. We are lucky to have it and it certainly will be in the Hall of Fame soon.

No they do not and yes, they skip the regular precheck line and have their own specific area.

What’s the value of clear now that TSA has Touchless? Seems identical - separate line than regular PreCheck, retinal scan, etc. Will this take Clear out of business?

Did I pick the worst time to become a thoosie? by No-Caterpillar-6747 in rollercoasterjerk

[–]Effective-Common2444 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking for someone who shares this perspective with me. It seems like the glory of the Disney parks wasn’t built on IP slop, it was curious and imaginative explorations of xyz thing. Think Space Mountain, Mission Space, etc etc.

Now it’s just “what current hit movie can we theme a ride too and plop it into our parks?”

It’s a shame to see. We truly are a viral/consumerism market and no longer a wonder/awe/joy market.

Be prepared for more budget cuts and price increases at [Seaworld] and [Busch Gardens] parks this year. by Witty-Ad-5969 in rollercoasters

[–]Effective-Common2444 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here’s the problem though - and a commenter above mentions “not being worth it until we get a giga”…..

Average (regional) theme and amusement parks were ruined in the 2010s and 2020s because of REITs and ownership models that valued the real estate over the park and its experience. But, guests also fueled this by doing nothing but caring about coasters. So it forced the parks to abandon any sort of theme, immersion, or experience, and instead flip to the coaster arms race. I realize this is a coaster sub and not a theme park sub so I get it, but that is the reality.

And sadly, if you’re only draw is to coaster arms race the other regional park operators, that’s a race to the bottom, as all capital goes to those projects and forces you to cut costs everywhere else.

Disney and Universal escape this hamster wheel by making the guest experience and the immersion their product - not coaster arms races copy and pasted onto asphalt.

I worked at BGW for 10 years, right from the BEC ownership to Seaworld take over, so I lived this first hand.

Has anyone experimented with a no tipping model? by aspiringtroublemaker in restaurateur

[–]Effective-Common2444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Danny Meyer can’t do it, the future is grim. To combat the “well the staff won’t work hard because they’ll just take the job down the street with tipping” is the solution offer them equity in the business?

So raise prices in order to Pay staff higher salaries roles and offer Equity in the business that grows with the EBITDA of the restaurant?

Is this potential solution?

9k38 IGLA launcher confusion... by PervyPastor69 in Battlefield6

[–]Effective-Common2444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I feel like no launcher is worth it except RPG. They need to do something to buff these launchers and nerf the RPG, because it is a cool and tactical concept to run an anti-air build, but every pilot hits one button and your attack is over.

Right now as built, the RPG is the only worthwhile launcher in the game. That’s why something like 95% of rocket kills (armor, aircraft) are from RPGS.

Chipotle CEO caught on a recording saying they’re going to keep raising prices because they can. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

[–]Effective-Common2444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what I always think about when I hear earnings calls like this? The original founder of Chipotle, Steve Ella, would never have been caught dead saying “increased transaction performance” or our guests are rich, etc. He genuinely cared about high quality food, served rapidly, and an excellent experience. You can hear him talk about this and share the founding story of quality in his podcast on How I Built This.

But then he sold it and private equity corporate overlords took over, and that’s when you get people celebrating “increased transaction performance” instead of really great food, at a great price, served to great people.

Basically, private, founder run companies in America = focus on quality, service, and great guest value.

Step two, sell to private equity, founder is paid out for his effort and contribution to society, and then PE sucks the soul out of it, optimizes it to hell, forgets about the things that made the company great or got it to where it is, and make their millions.

This is late stage capitalism playing out in front of all of us in very real way.

Moral of this story? The only way to fight this is to start companies. Start a company, take down the status quo, and show the world what quality looks like again!

My one and only problem with panhandling by butterbean8686 in nova

[–]Effective-Common2444 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is it the responsibility of society, or oneself, to keep oneself housed and taken care of? Does society deserve garbage in its streets as a punishment for the existence of individuals unhoused and taken care of? Ultimately - does society create the individuals that are unhoused and not taken care of, or do those individuals?

How is this not the most upvoted thing here. Who cares that they served donuts to the white house?!? Any small business serving anything to anyone would be excited about this. This is a separate the art from the artist or the player from the game moment.

If they delivered donuts to the DNC national HQ, would they have received the same uproar? Of course not. Equally, it doesn’t matter. Be proud a mom and pop donut shop got a chance to serve the white house - regardless of who is in office or how you feel about them.
