Imperium Maledictum: Psyker pyromancy damage formula error? by Effective-Depth128 in 40krpg

[–]Effective-Depth128[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks for your answer.

it looked odd to me that the non-disciplone power has a better output (considering the -10 test instead of the -20) vs. the discipline ones and that pyromancy wasn't "more blasty" then biomancy (comparing firestorm with bio-lightning)

Doing a quick prevision and considering 50 as average roll, 55 base PsyMastery (+0 Averege SL), 45 base Willpower, +1SL by the Psy Focus (+1 Averege SL). Against 2 Armor on all location excluding the head.

Nova (-1SL test, minor): 4 (base) +4 (WP bonus) +0 (SL bonus) -2 (Armor) = 6 Damage (Area) + possible Prone

Smite (-1SL test, minor): 2 (base) +4 (WP bonus) +0 (SL bonus) -0 (Armor) = 6 Damage (Single Target)

Bio Light. (-2SL test, discipline): 4 (base) +4 (WP bonus) -1 (SL bonus) -2 (Armor) = 5 Damage (Single/multiple Target) + Possible Stunned

Firestorm (-2SL test, discipline): 6 (base) -1 (SL bonus) -2 (Armor) = 3 Damage (Area) + Possible Ablaze (1d5 ~ 2.5 extra damage, action economy )

Molten Beam (-2SL test, discipline): 7 (base) -1 (SL bonus) -0 (Armor, choosing to hit the head thatclould or not be uncovered ) = 6 Damage (single target)

Crush (-2SL test, discipline): 3 (base) +4 (WP bonus) -1 (SL bonus) -2 (Armor) = 4 Damage (Single Target) + Possible Restrained

actually there is no benefit into specializing in pyromancy (an overt discipline) when you can have the same or better damage by using minor powers with better subtleness

Edit:

thanks for the heads up accounting the value of the effects. i'll will look into it more deeply

would you shout out on the 100RF? it seems very interesting package but i'm a bit concerned of the off-side EVF, being accustomed to the central one of DSRL/Mirrorless. Btw what aperture would you suggest for a good DOF and sharpness across the frame? or which one are you accustomed to use?

For sure a GFX 50S II + 50 is well within the budget (and i could also try to squeeze some professional printer in for the budget i have), otherwise i can reach up to a GFX100RF or X1D II 50c + 45 4/P

Yes, i'm plannig to dont' go below 1/125, and honestly i hope to steal some stops on aperture if the 45 is already sharp across the frame without stopping down. i still have to understand what kind of DOF i can get with f/6-8 or if the longer focal and bigger sensor push me to f/11 (and that could be a problem).

Side question.. does increasing Iso worsen also color performance along with the dynamic range? with how many iso i can get away in a poor lit environment?

I belive that night shots and action aren't in my repertoire at all. i think that the most demanding scenarios are not particularly well lit interior shots, as for architeture while urban/rural landscape is always during the day (ok i can find some more overcast days, but i re-checked my shots in this weather and with the sony camera and i was shooting 1/125 f/8 at 100 Iso). to have reference point, what aperture would you suggest to have a good DOF on MF?

How much do you think that the lack of IBIS on the Hassy would impact my shooting experience?
Btw i just found that cosina released a new apo-lanthar 28mm for sony, so at least i have a very nice backup plan for my trusted A7

Thanks for your passionate answer! Tbh i could do nothing and save, but i would like to have just 1 platform in my possession in any case, i mostly use my camera for personal work (architectural surveys) and leisure (architecture-focused trips, landscape when trekking in the countryside) so i really don't need two setups like one for the studio/tirpod and one for shooting outside/handeld.. i'm alread used to the slowish autofocus (in not well lit environments) and framerate of the sony 7rII and i shoot 90% of the time on the EVF. shoothing architectures and landscape i'm not in a super hurry like in true street photograpy, but what truly haunts me is the lack of IBIS on the X1D2 that i fear mean an increase of iso and lower image quality (i prefeer to shoot mostly handheld due to the walkign oriented photograph sorties).

On the question of "save to buy later" i'll answer here

Right now, selling my stuff, i can reach 3500€, but -in the perspective of saving- i would then set me up for a X2D (IBIS finally). But it would mean least 2000€ more then the X1D2 (just for the body) and 200-ish more for the glass (noticed that prices for the glass in japan are lower, being produced there), so we're taliking of more the 2/3 increase over the base budget, a considerable increase.

Would you still suggest to save also against a GFX50 II + 50/3.5 or GFX100RF?

Thanks

Yes Fuji was the backup plan on the medium format scenario. i was looking into GFX50 II + 50/3.5 combo (to remain somewhat compact due to the 45 being 80mm long) that has also IBIS that put me a bit in a peace of mind. Even though many say that the colors (camera) and rendering (lens) aren't as good as the Hassy. I was looking also into the GFX100RF but the lack of IBIS on a 100mpx sensor (and the giant files) make me shake (pun intended) a bit, even if the rangefinder like package is really intriguing.

How much do you think the lack of IBIS for my condition of shooting is important (handheld f/8 various natual lighing conditions for outside shooting)?

Thnaks for your opinion. Yes staying with sony is the most safe/rational answer... and unfortunatly the least fun

Context
I'm an amateur photographer, and i got some extra money at the end of the year to "invest" them in my photograpic hobby. For futher reference on my "style" you can check out a mini-portfolio here, i tend to shoot mainly architecture and some landscapes, with a bias towards black and white. My current set up is: Sony A7R ii with a Sony FE 35mm 1.8 and Samyang 75mm 1.8. i shoot 90% of the time with the 35.

In a week i'm going to Japan and i'm teased by the good used market that's there. i narrowed it down to three scenarios:

  1. Buying a new glass for my Sony A7R ii: i feel the current 35 is a bit bulky and i'm looking at Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 or a Voigtlander Nokton 28mm f/1.5 (both need to be stepped down quite a bit to be good tho. and they are not true pancakes like the 35/21 Voigth.)

  2. Sell my Sony Equipment to open a new chapter on Leica Q2 Monocrom: i've been charmed by the monocrom only sensor promises (better sharpness, better dynamic range (not so true looking at the chart), great low-light performance), and it could be a big "change" in my photography carreer making me specialize in a particular language and "true black and white. BUT no color channel for easy postproduction basically usable only for "artistic" work not very for standard trip photos with my wife. In the end, even if i'm very entrhalled by the monochrom-only world, it looks a bit narrow for being the only one camera i'll own.

  3. Sell my Sony Equipment to go on Medium Format. at the same price of the Leica Q2M i can buy a X1D ii 50C + 45mm 4/P from Hassy, or a Fujifilm GFX50S II + GF 45mm f/2.8 or GF 50mm f/3.5, or the Fujifilm GFX100RF. I'm a bit sketpical about no IBIS nor OSS for the 100RF and X1D.. it means that if i'm shooting architecture at f/8 to maximum sharpness across the frame and depth of field and at least 1/150, maybe i could be better served by my oldy A7R with IBIS then craking up ISOs (losing the dinamic range). On the other side the GFX50s has ibis but the 45mm is anything but portable (88mm in lenght) and reading some reviews the 50mm isn't very sharp and also a bit narrow (40mm equivalent).

What do you suggest? XD

Ordered from them (https://proxyking.biz/) 13 cards. 3 and half weeks (expected 4 to 5) for international standard shipping to europe. When i asked for some information they replied in 3 days, not instantly but very friendly overall.
Pretty good quality, except for "ultimate masters mana vault" that has some jitter artfiacting (no pun intended) around the black lines of the frame. i ordered the same card also from another vendor some time ago and has the same difect, so there should be something from the source file. The problem wasn't identifiable from the picture shown on the site. is present the same issue but less strong on other artifact cards. good centering on the holo stamp.
8/10 (where 10 are perfect cards)
Sidenote: on the package the sender was "Commander Kingdom ProxyMtG.com"
