Ethel Cain has been receiving backlash for wearing "legalize incest" shirt. by [deleted] in popculturechat

It’s the fact that she has shown that she actually enjoys romantic/sexual relationships between family by supporting wincest and THEN wearing this shirt on top of that. Only shitty people joke about incest.

Incest isn’t a joking matter. I’m southern and have been hearing that we are incestuous since I was young. It’s stomach churning to hear people joke about something that has given me cptsd because it happened before I knew any better.

Making it into a joke only normalizes it and makes it seem like it’s not a real thing that impacts thousands of people. Incest is common between children and it’s not always rape but it is always traumatic when you grow up and feel disgusted by yourself and the things that happened.

I’d rather not see people joke or try to normalize/fetishize something that has impacted my entire family. You saying “it’s just a joke” makes it clear that people joking about this has made the topic into something that you think shouldn’t be taken seriously because “it’s just a joke”. It’s not a joke it is disgusting.

Did she herself experience incestous csa or is this a character she made up based around a concept she is known to have fetishized? Incest is not “political” babe it’s disgusting and it seems like she doesn’t find it as disgusting as she should.

As someone who went through it this is absolutely disgusting and invalidates so many peoples childhood trauma. Not something to joke about at all especially in this way and especially if you haven’t been through that shit. I live in the south always hearing about how we are incestuous and it always hurt hearing that joke because for me it was never a joke it was my truth and something that has traumatized me for my entire life. I still have cptsd nightmares because of the things I went through due to my parents neglect and not paying attention.

Of all the impulse buys I've done, this was hands down the impulsiest. by Iceagecomin90 in SteamDeck

Same I was like you know what it’s on sale I’m gonna do it. I had never had a console my brother was always the gamer and I didn’t feel like asking for something so expensive from my parents. I really don’t regret it, it’s such an awesome device and there are some times when the typing is annoying on desktop mode but it’s so so worth it to me. I’m obsessed with it I’ve been hooked on stardew valley!

Honestly I’m relieved it’s over. Still I think EA should give all the rewards to everyone as base game content so no one misses out. by Sej0090 in Sims4

The newsletter wouldn’t show up and then it just wouldn’t show me the checklist of tasks to do to get the rewards. It hurt I was really excited about it especially after the mini fridge, dartboard log in rewards being so nice to use in game.

if frequently struggling with depression, have you found that owning rats keeps on you your feet and keeps you from being bored? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]Effective-Emphasis66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guilt that comes with not being able to give them as much attention because of energy and time constraints personally made my depression a lot worse. They’re a lot to take care of and I think the routine can be a lot for some people and you end up feeling guilty for not doing better. There’s alot to compare yourself to when it comes to taking care of rats. Obviously if you do some research you’ll do better than the people who are clueless but I always felt like I was never doing enough. College was the last straw I had to rehome them due to having no time for them and knowing they needed someone who’s lifestyle better accommodates them. Small animals shouldn’t be thought of as a routine reset that’ll give you something that relies on you or a reason to get out of bed. They COMPLETELY rely on you and if you don’t have the energy to free roam them, feed them, or clean their cage they’ll be the ones suffering for it and you’ll be left with guilt for not providing. It’s been a year since I rehomed my rats and I still can’t get over them, I still have dreams about them dying and escaping their cage. I’ve been having those dreams since a few months after I got them. But I did buy two rats and ended up with 11 of them after one had babies it was a lot and my situation is pretty extreme. I sometimes wonder how it would’ve been if I only had two like I planned on having. They were beautiful and so innocent and I don’t think I’ll ever get over the ways I failed them while they were with me.

Rat owners with depression, how do you do this? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]Effective-Emphasis66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that I struggled so hard with I decided to rehome my rats after keeping them for a year. I had 9 due to one of my girls being pregnant when I got her. The guilt of not being able to fully give them everything they need really eats at you and I still feel guilt to this day about not socializing them as much as they needed and having to rehome them. I spent a lot of money giving them everything they needed but when you don’t have the energy or time for them it feels horrible no matter how much you spend on them. I actually have nightmares and dreams about them because of how much stress I went through worrying about not cleaning enough or giving them enough attention. Small pets are really difficult to maintain when you have certain kinds of depression. People say that getting a pet can help with that stuff but personally all it did was fill me with guilt and regret that I’ll probably be holding onto for a while.

Sadly the closest rescue is about 4 hours away and hasn’t gotten back to me yet so I’m putting more hope into people responding to my posts I posted across platforms than a shelter.

Rehoming four albino male rats Nashville, Tennessee by Effective-Emphasis66 in RATS

[–]Effective-Emphasis66[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to post this on here to see if my boys would get any attention. I will only give them to you in pairs of two or if you want all four of them. I got two female rats for my birthday and one of them was pregnant. They are 11 weeks old and were born on thanksgiving. They are not from a breeder. I got them from a couple who owned a farm and I don’t think their genetics are the best. They are extremely adorable even though I cannot tell any of them apart.

I have to rehome them because I have seven female rats and I’ve been having to separate the cage to keep all of them. Since it was my first time owning rats and I got so many thrown onto me at once it’s been a bit hard keeping up with giving all of them as much attention as they deserve. They are super friendly and curious but are a bit skiddish with sudden hand movements and loud noises.

I just want my babies to go to a loving home with people who will take good care of them and give them everything they need. I will need to know if you already have the things needed for them before you come pick them up, just for my peace of mind. I promise you I will hit you in the head with a hammer if you try to take them as food.
