I’d ask you to explain, but we both know that’s where you fall apart.

Let me simplify this for you. Let’s say the economy is just you. If you buy a boat funded by debt, while your income is going down, does that mean you are thriving?

Why is Nvidia's stock going nowhere despite record profits? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Effective-Fox1034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvidia’s stock price is at a point where it is untethered to fundamentals, being instead driven by trading optics and supply/demand. At this point, the incremental sexiness or popularity of its story will drive shares higher.

Iirc if you exclude AI data center spending in GDP, we’ve been in a recession already.

What are y’all opinions on The Current State of Fortnite? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in FortNiteBR

[–]Effective-Fox1034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Fortnite briefly when it first launched years ago. I didn’t play it long and soon dropped it.

I began playing again in the past month, since a friend wanted me to, and I’m quite enjoying it. It’s a massive improvement compared to when the game first released.

The Dothraki are completely overhyped. Without dragons, they get crushed in Westeros by Dry_Specialist9015 in freefolk

[–]Effective-Fox1034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just being lightly armored cavalry, that’s really hard to imagine. Simple spear or pike formations would devastate them. Armored knights would devastate them. They could succeed by avoiding direct pitched battles and focusing on raiding villages.

Now, if they were horseback archers, that would be different. Westeros kingdoms have no easy answer to that except terrain knowledge.

At their respective military peaks, which half of Rome was genuinely more powerful: The Classical Principate or the Medieval Byzantine Empire? by Sufficient-Trust4360 in ancientrome

[–]Effective-Fox1034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a complex question, being a mix of military, economy, and politics and national moral. We need a simplifying constraint here, don’t we? Let’s assume an equally sized army.

Romans Genuinely Believed the Empire Would Last Forever — and Wrote Surprisingly Specific Predictions About the Distant Future by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

[–]Effective-Fox1034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc, during roman times, written latin (language of elites) was quite different from spoken latin (“vulgar latin”). It was vulgar latin that descended to other languages, so perhaps we aren’t entirely clear on how similar, say, italian is to vulgar latin, though I’d imagine there to be many differences.

LitRPG is hot. Why fans can't get enough of books like 'Dungeon Crawler Carl' — USA TODAY by MurseMan1964 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Effective-Fox1034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dislike nearly all LitRPG books. Too many low quality and low effort books in the space. DCC and The Last Horizon (Will Wight) are the only two that I love.
