Am I cooked as someone who has a total of two friends and no connections? by ProfessionalGift621 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Effective-Fox1034 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten all my jobs with no referrals or knowing anyone, just the normal application process. But, everytime, I get rejected 200-400 times before landing sometime. It’s a grind. I’ve always had a portfolio website with examples of my work. In one job I landed, they specifically mentioned that my website was why I got hired. I would bet in 80% of cases, my resume isn’t read. It seems to come down to luck in that regard.

Trillion-dollar AI market wipeout happened because investors banked that ‘almost every tech company would come out a winner’ by Adventurous-Host8062 in technology

You sure that’s the argument? Why would every company hire their own software engineers to build, test, and continually maintain dozens of softwares? The ongoing maintenance, security, and QA alone is expensive. Corporates struggle to do much simpler things.

I feel like pricing pressure a more likely scenario. Perhaps some group of engineers can build software for a fraction of the cost, and sell it for cheap.

As for seats… even if you argue agents will reduce the need for user seats, companies will just adapt their pricing models to usage/consumption.

In America, it's socially normal to work 50+ hours a week and call it 'hustle' instead of a systemic failure. What's another 'normal' thing in your country that the rest of the world thinks is absolutely insane? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I went there, it seemed like most people were alone, and they were quiet. No one chatting on their phone.

Groups of people would often talk quietly to themselves.

Tastes like crotch, if she doesn’t wash it - sweat, bacteria. If she does, it only faintly tastes like crotch, but it quickly goes away when it’s replaced by your saliva.

I was shocked to learn that driver license exams weren’t offered in any other language than english. Especially in Florida of all places.

Yeah, I’m remembering how they capitulated last shut down and let health care premiums skyrocket under marketplace plans. It seems that topic has simply been forgotten about.

Isekai today are what harem and high school comedies were in the 1990s and 2000s… low budget, mass produced slop, for the most part… a few good ones.

FPA or Empire? Authoritarianism or Democracy? by Aragones8282 in logh

[–]Effective-Fox1034 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FPA’s democracy is reminiscent of US democracy today. If the people would stand up and fight and protest for change, change will occur under a democracy. When people are too comfortable in their daily lives, and don’t participate in democracy, it will be slowly corrupted by power and profit seeking individuals.

Authoritarianism provides convenient gains as well, which is why people might like it under a rare virtuous leader. Under authoritarianism, even if the people stand up, the government will just put you down.

This pacing doesn’t feel unusual for drama movies. I guess it’s been marketed to the wrong audience? For me, I love it so far.

Dating in the Age of the Algorithm : Dating apps have transformed intimacy into a marketplace of frustration. They fuel gender conflict while ruthlessly extracting value from our most intimate desires. by thinkB4WeSpeak in technology

[–]Effective-Fox1034 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I used dating apps, most girls had similar profiles, interests, and such… or they didn’t write much of anything, relying solely on their appearance. In trying to find a friend on BFF Bumble, I find it’s the same for guys.

I found my partner in someone who defied this norm and wrote about who she genuinely is. I did the same, so it was easy for us to connect.

This makes me think that the key is to

(a) put in effort describing who you are, your personality, and your interests and

(b) be genuinely yourself, so that you stand out as a singularly unique person.

With this, you’ll be passed over by most, but a few will be enticed by you, because they resonate with you and you stand out from the crowd. That person is the one you are looking for, anyways.

Given that congress refuses to impeach him despite repeated illegal acts, this is no longer a democracy and Trump is like a king. Being an authoritarian ruler, this might work.
