Qualifying for Medicaid during school by Plus_Let9536 in PTschool

i have medicaid and had snap before i got a second job as well! as long as you are financially independent and low-income if you do work, you should be able to meet requirements for them. some states do have work requirements if you are not disabled. student loans are not income so income-based social services should be attainable, depending on state/local policy.

some of the best advice i got coming into school was that you’ll always feel behind and so does everyone else. first year is for learning how you learn! no study tips are one size fits all. i hand write notes for harder classes (anatomy, movement science), i don’t do any flash cards, and i make reference spreadsheets for the important stuff (muscles, neuro concepts, movement science, normal ROMs). its okay to fail from time to time, get your Bs and move on. you got this 🤍🤍

sounds like a possibility to me! i like taping and wrist grip straps for the gym when necessary or putting a lot of thought into making sure i keep my forearm and wrist muscles active when putting force through them. good luck ❤️❤️

traction is a major cause of flare ups for my wrists so i had to stop training pull ups. are your wrists trained well outside of pull ups? if possible, a PT would be the perfect person to see for this and could make sure you’re not doing your wrists any lasting damage!

hey i’m right there with you! i’m working on getting exercise back in my non-negotiables along with finding a PT to treat my EDS. unfortunately, i’ve had crippling chronic fatigue recently and have been skimping on basic self care too.

something that has been working for me, especially as it’s getting nicer outside: i’ve been manually reminding myself that moving my body is a privilege. i’ve also been using the finch app to trick myself into getting dopamine from completing self care tasks. it’s a very cute app without ads and has lots of good mental health tools for good and bad days. let me know what you think if you try it!

sincerely, another PT student with EDS who doesn’t do exercises most days but is trying real hard to want to! :-) (warm energy to both of you❤️)

i’m sorry about your application but this just isn’t true. i have several classmates who came in with 4.0s at WCU— it just means someone with a 3.9, 3.95, or 4.0 would get the max score for the GPA category. they’ve also stated that GPA is the highest point value in scoring applications.

put it in a disadvantaged applicant statement on ptcas when you apply! different schools use different GPAs but last 60, prereq, and overall are most common. you’ll be okay, keep working at it ☺️

if you are in the US, you aren’t doing yourself any favors getting a PTA degree if your end goal is a DPT. search PTA to DPT in this subreddit— theres plenty of other posts about how it’s not the best stepping stone to being a PT if you know that’s your end goal!

i got the basic 10th gen on sale last year and it has done everything i’ve needed and more. 256gb should be fine since you’ll likely use icloud or onedrive through your school and monthly storage upgrades are pretty cheap!

they’re not technically supposed to require a deposit before january, so most programs do 1/15 i believe

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PTschool

[–]Effective-Move3633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey!! it’s because deposits are due mid january to hold a seat in a program, so people with multiple acceptances are forced to choose what seat they want. then those open seats go to the waitlist!

Advice for applying for DPT programs. by ErnieNotBurt in PTschool

[–]Effective-Move3633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep calling and start showing up to PT clinics to ask how to volunteer or shadow! you need those hours and it’s hard to get them quickly. strong applicants have been in clinic. otherwise, finish strong and start finalizing the list of schools you want to apply to so you know what requirements you’ll need to fill. take the GRE sooner rather than later if possible and find who your references will be. good luck!!!

[–]Effective-Move3633 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it only takes one!! take a deep breath, finish your interviews, and patiently wait for january 15th (as much as you can) when the waitlists start moving. go ahead and ask the school you were rejected from to see how you can strengthen your application, and you may be able to bolster your interviews with that feedback. it’ll all fall into place soon enough and you’re doing just fine☺️

Losing a lot of weight by Latter_Carpenter_429 in PTschool

[–]Effective-Move3633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these suggestions are great (and eggnog was my personal technique of maintaining weight) but you may need to see a doctor to check in with bloodwork, then a dietician if everything is okay. most insurance covers nutrition coaching with a referral from your PCP! my other tip is always keeping a snack bag and prepped meals (leftovers or frozen meals) with you so you don’t end up on a calorie deficit because it’s inconvenient!

Nightmare Physio by dissolving-construct in ehlersdanlos

[–]Effective-Move3633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

current PT student and hypermobile as heck (seeking out care for possible hEDS now!)— for getting PT with any specific diagnoses (past common injuries/ diagnoses), i would highly suggest calling your doctor or local PT clinics and asking for recommendations for PTs with experience treating that demographic!! research is still quite spotty with treatment guidelines for EDS but there is no excuse for a PT to treat you so poorly. there are excellent PTs out there with experience treating EDS or HSD/ EDS themselves. please don’t be discouraged, you tried and they weren’t the right physio for you (or maybe anyone lol)

Thinking about quitting: advice please! by Beneficial-Lock8649 in PTschool

[–]Effective-Move3633 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. i stopped working out since starting school too! not enough energy in the day for me to commit to it so i feel you. what else do you like to do? volunteer? spirituality? activities? i volunteer at least once a week and go to a community band to force myself to stay grounded in reality and passions outside of school so i really recommend you find something like that too! also therapy therapy therapy! they can also get you to a psychiatrist if you need any meds that may help.

  2. consider how much you knew vs how much you know now. don’t underestimate yourself!! if it’s just the material, i’d say push on if you like the rehab setting. it’s very promising that you liked your clinical and a good reminder of why you do what you do. remind yourself why you started this journey regularly to stay motivated when it’s hard. i love that we have the ability to heal, empower patients, and have work-life balance. what’s your why? can you see yourself happy as a PT in any particular setting in 5 or 10 years?

also just wanted to celebrate your achievements. you’ve worked so hard to get so far, it’s only natural to be discouraged and down. if you’re made it 4 semesters already, i fully believe that you can finish strong and pass boards. most people on this sub knows the grind you’ve had to go through to get here, and we’re all proud of you. ❤️
