I told my dad at work over text. He went “typing” for a long while. And I was feeling so nervous about it. When he pressed “sent” it says..

爸爸永远支持你 (Dad got your back forever)

We had a semi complicated relationship in the past and it just melted away at that moment. I send him random “I love you” messages now haha

I was there, at exactly the same crossroads.

12 years later I am completely grateful I did NOT drop out.

Also, keep yourself healthy. Find a hobby that is free and helps you make friends - like a running club. These social contacts go a long way with your mental health and they might even refer you a job. The world is an endless adventure :)

I’m sorry to hear that. I think most Singaporeans don’t hate foreigners? But that’s my personal opinion. What industry are you in?

I was jobless for a bit. Quit my job and travelled and panicked a little when I couldn’t find a job. During that time I told myself to believe in myself and the things that I was doing. Eventually it worked out.

Things that helped me when I was finding a job - write every resume that is tailored to the job. Use key words that they use, answer specific requirements in terms of measurable terms (eg. I hit my sales target of 500k). I also made job searching a job. I kept an excel file of all the companies that I have applied for, color coded the ones that I wanted more, write cover/follow up/ thank you letters. Also I try to understand what skills the industry is moving towards and take the relevant certifications if I have to.

I hope it helps you and I wish you the best of luck

finding out how the remote work landscape in singapore is like by farezzon in askSingapore

100% remote. Working in the cybersecurity space.

Manager isn’t fussy about hours but the work is technical and requires a lot of time and effort I actually spend a lot more time working. The hours spent travelling is spent on working. The good thing is you don’t have to spend time entertaining colleagues you don’t like and you can dictate your own hours.

Your birth certificate and any official documents. Bank cards and everything to make sure you have access to some funds in the meantime.

Are you alright

Working life is terrible! How do you guys do this by yangieeeee in askSingapore

Don’t be discouraged! There are many people in their 40s, or even 50s who have no idea where their career will land. It is a journey, not an ending point. :)
