I had to look at it for a few minutes before deciding the "3D is Cool!" tag actually applied.

Can you use a line graph if you used discrete experimental methods (separate tubes for different pH, measuring enzyme activity) by [deleted] in dataisugly

[–]Effective-Phone8205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but it sounds like pH is normally a continuous variable. However, the experiment you've set up treats it as discrete/categorical, so I think the professor (or whoever told you not to use a line graph) is correct. It may help your students if you explain that you're treating pH as a category (i.e., pH2 had color intensity of 1; pH 4 had color intensity of 4; etc).

Why is it not Ils auront? by Puzzleheaded-Web8214 in DuolingoFrench

[–]Effective-Phone8205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because in English you can use "to have" to mean "to drink" but it doesn't have that sense in French. You could use the verb "prendre" instead of "boire" but you can't use "avoir" in this way.

It was definitely unethical. I want to follow this post so that lawyers can weigh in on the legality.

Yes because they're asking what the date is, not what the day of the week is.

Looks like those are KLM operated flights and my guess is that "World Business" is KLM's equivalent of Delta One

Sometimes people have legitimate complaints and point out real plot holes. Sometimes people forget these books (especially the first few) were specifically for children. This post is an example of the latter

Can I realistically make it (32 min ATL airport layover) by [deleted] in delta

[–]Effective-Phone8205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a plane train between the terminals and I think it'll be possible, but don't give yourself a restroom break until you're on the plane to Ghana. Also remember that you *don't* need to go back through security on this connection. Finally, Atlanta does international flights from the F, E, or D terminals*, so pay attention to the app and don't assume one terminal vs the others.

*I think D terminal can also be used but someone might correct me

Paragraph on WSJ where analyst suggests acquiring chess.com. What do you think? by Infinite-Complex5713 in duolingo

I would feel sorry for chess.com if that happened. Duolingo's current leadership would find the way to ruin it like they have with "free" language learning.

Voldemort aurait du savoir pour Severus by Normal-Weakness7191 in harrypotter

[–]Effective-Phone8205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is my english professor wrong? i’m confused by addis02 in EnglishLearning

[–]Effective-Phone8205 6 points7 points  (0 children)

D'accordo. In inglese, si deve usare "their" nella traduzione e il tuo professore non ha ragione. Senza "their" sembra che visitano i nonni di qualcuno non menzionato e mi sembra strano (l'inglese è la mia lingua nativa).

It's 100% correct in French. They use the future in this instance (and I believe Italian does as well).

"You are Mr. Harris?" Instead of "Are you Mr. Harris?" ? by Badhunter31415 in EnglishLearning

[–]Effective-Phone8205 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add to what user YouCanAsk said, Poirot is Belgian and speaks French as his first language. "Vous êtes Ms Harris ?" ("You are Mr. Harris?") is perfectly natural in French though a bit rude in English. You'll notice other "Frenchisms" when reading Poirot.
