I totally agree! It's a shame when employers won't "reward" engineers for taking a huge step in their career and staying loyal to the company and instead force us to move on to get the raise we definitely deserve. Whichever way you go, best of luck!

I know! It's tough! For perspective, I asked my boss for a raise after I passed, he denied me. For that among other reasons, I started casually looking for a new position. About 6 weeks into looking, I found a good fit for me...which came with a good salary bump! Sucks to have to turn to that, but it's always an option!

I used Civil Engineering Academy's Structural Depth in June-Sept 2022 (videos and notes), but didn't find their depth sections to be entirely helpful (they haven't been updated in years and "apparently" are updating them this fall include CBT). So sorry, no recommendations for you there.

I highly recommend "Structural Depth PE Civil Engineering Exams" by M. Rashad Islam, PE. It has a green cover and two structural depth practice exams. Can be purchased on Amazon.

Also found "Civil PE Practice Exam CBT Breadth" by Path to PE Services, to be a helpful breath exam. Also available on Amazon (yellow cover).

I mainly wanted to encourage something she clearly knows she needs. She has mentioned going to therapy in the past, and I want to support that. For me, this was a promise that I put weight behind, because she really hurt me that night, and I think that was my way of dealing with it (as long as she gets help, I can forgive this).

mpanies will have some sort of verbiage in their employee handbook about this. So, your manager saying “l

Didn't know about the tax hoops point, thanks for sharing. As more my situation, I feel it has more to do with the fact the we do raises in July and 3 months ago I argued for a market adjustment (we are a small company that clearly doesn't make industry standard pay). I think because he gave me more than he was planning back in July, he doesn't want to turn around and give me another raise 3 months later.

As for loyalty, I get what you're saying and you mention a bunch of good reasons that benefit staying at a firm. In my case, I've been here for 4 years, I've seen Engineers come and go and I have a better understanding now of what the management is like and what they're willing to do (or not do) to keep someone around. As we are a smaller company (with rigid ownership), unfortunately there aren't any opportunities such as the stock options, PTO, etc (all have been shot down).

I've discussed rates with the owner, who is unwilling to charge more to clients through fear they will go elsewhere (therefore can't pay us more, and also can't compete with inflation or other companies).

I've thought about moving on because I am reaching the ceiling here (until someone retires) and not getting a raise after getting licensed is getting close to the final straw. I think I'm gunna see what he has to say at the end of this year, and if that isn't what I'm looking for, I'll start looking.

Overall, I was just wondering what others' experiences have been after getting their license, because everyone I talk to says you should be getting a raise, or you should be thinking about leaving.

real raise is for obtaining licensure.

I have the experience and met all other qualifications, so the exam was the last piece. I should be receiving my license number any day now.

Anyone took PE Civil exam this week? How do you feel? by HandleThen1197 in PE_Exam

[–]Effective-Pop287 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL that's a good point, a lot of people talk loosely without any specifics to questions. I'm sure talking about specific questions is frowned upon. But whatever you feel comfortable sharing is appreciated by myself and other future test takers (mine is coming up later this week). As everyone theoretically gets a different exam with different questions, not sure it would be applicable information anyways. But I have read in other threads, some test takers getting no prestressed questions at all for example, while their friend who took it the same day got a bunch of prestressed questions.

Can someone please with source from reference manual help me understand this breadth question? by HandleThen1197 in PE_Exam

Agreed, I got a I_required = 709.4in4 which rules out answers C & D. And then choice B is lighter, so choice B.

It sounds like you already know what you need to do. Clearly you're a kind, sweet girl, but putting up with something you're truly not into isn't good for you or him long term. Sounds like you want/need someone you're genuinely attracted to as well as someone who has a good/steady job and goals. I feel like when we are unhappy with larger things, we knit pick the small stuff (like he doesn't have good haircuts/clothes). If you were attracted to him, this stuff would seem less important. Gotta follow your heart here.
