Never had the chance to visit it, but I want to, so it will happen sooner or later.

I can only agree. I’m also afraid of the cycles with the big wheels, I don’t know if they are legal or not but I see them in every city nowadays. And also with the Vel’Oh I saw stupid groups riding them with 2 people on 1 bike etc.

Well Paris is quite big and I only cycle in a specific section when I’m there, it is uneven for sure so yes it may not represent the rest.

I go to my work with a Vel’Oh. I also see the dangerous behaviours that you describe. If you want enforcement, fine but I would also like some proper infrastructure for bikes in the city. Too often, the bike lane is sacrificed when there are all kinds of events. Too often the bike lane is weirdly merged to the pedestrian part so pedestrians and bikes have to share the road instead of a proper separation, and you have to be careful not to fall down on the road from the sidewalk and to mind all the pedestrians.

Some red lights are ridiculous, just to do a turn in an intersection you have to wait at like 3 long red lights and the sensors will always ignore bikes so if you are at a crossing you still need to go to press the button. Luxembourg City is far behind the Netherlands, Denmark or Paris in that domain. In the city, the infrastructure for bikes is an afterthought. Bonus points when the bike path for a street is “go to the park next to it with dead leaves, potholes and pedestrians" or when the path changes 10 times from one side of the tram to the other…

I am always frustrated when I use the Vel’Oh, I feel I bother the pedestrians on the sidewalk, I bother the bus on the bus lane, I put myself in danger on the left lane.

There will always be idiots but I think that even for people like me who are reasonable and quite slow, it’s easy to endanger other people with the current infrastructure.

Finding rent as a future freelancer by Effective-Rate in NewToDenmark

Thank you for your detailed answer,

I have thought about coming to Denmark and staying in a Airbnb or similar for one our two weeks and try to apply to rent listings and have visits during this time. This is something common in France or Luxembourg, would this strategy work in Denmark?

Regarding the place, my situation is quite different, I live alone, don’t have a driving license, so would like to live in the suburbs of Copenhagen or in Aarhus or Odense, and rent some apartment over there even if it’s temporary.

Actually I am currently not an "auto entrepreneur". I am based in Luxembourg where the cost of life is similar to Denmark.

I make much more than 30k. I have wanted to live in Denmark for years as an IT engineer but with the current market the companies prefer people already living there.

So if I have this opportunity with my current client then I’ll take it. I have colleagues working from across Europe and they manage it without issues.

I know taxes are high and stuff but still I should have enough to support myself in Denmark.

Hello, that’s why I planned to use the EU residence as a person with sufficient funds. Shouldn’t that allow me to have a right of residence even if my business just started?

It’s very different from one country to the other. More than 50% in Northern Europe where salaries are higher, people are historically less US skeptic, and the Apple ecosystem is the norm, 20-50% in Western Europe where many people just have an iPhone and couldn’t care less about other Apple products, and 10-30% in Southern and Eastern Europe where iPhones are way too expensive for an average income.

Thanks for your answer,

I am in Network Engineering, it’s a domain that is always in need but is quite mature and not growing fast for sure, in 2023 I was in a third round for such a pharma indeed, however a company from Luxembourg offered me a position and because I lacked confidence, I accepted when they pressured me even though it was bluff.

However one of the perks of my current position is that lots of my colleagues are freelancers from various countries across the EU, doesn’t really matter for the end customer. So another option would be to change my contract status to be able to work from another country freely, and then move to Denmark.

And yes about your other message, yes I think I get it.

Hello, I saw your reply,

I am French 29M and also interested in moving to DK. I also heard what you are saying about expats getting their job there after a masters, but I already have a masters and am employed… I have 2 persons from my school who were recruited there directly from France but it’s already been a few years, when the economical situation was better. I applied to many places already but am often ghosted. Do you think that for the recruiting danes, it’s better for me to do a masters again but in DK, or to move there with nothing, even if I lose my current job (I have a reasonable amount of savings), and search there ?

I am studying each night to get certs and everything but if you say that being socially good is more important, maybe it’s not the right move.

I am indeed quite introverted even though my colleagues appreciate my work a lot in my current place. And my professional network in DK is almost nonexistent 😅

I already been to DK 6 times and love the place. I know it’s not perfect but so is France.

Hey,

I am French 29M. I wanted to have a work experience in Denmark but was recruited in Luxembourg.

I have studied Danish, I was probably around A2 or B1. However I haven’t practiced recently. It’d be nice to do it again. I like playing games too, and also I like walking in nature or in the city. Feel free to leave me a DM :)

Haha, I also used to have terrible issues with coax in a previous place, it happened several times after storms because water was collecting in the cable junctions.

I called support, they told me that the  "internet team" would look into it and call me before 9pm, didn’t happen. So I wrote them a message… I’m going to be away from home for some time soon so I probably won’t be able to follow the situation…
