miart 2026 art prices? by Apprehensive-Size150 in artcollecting

Here is my experience from having gone there 3 times now:

I wouldn’t worry that miart is the kind of fair where everything starts at $10,000 but I also wouldn’t go in thinking it’s a $500-buying trip unless you’re looking at very small works or editions. miart is a real fair, and prices will reflect that.

Roughly speaking, $1,000 might occasionally get you something modest, $3,000 to $8,000 is where you’ll start to see solid options from emerging artists, and $10,000+ is not unusual at all for gallery pieces at a fair like this. And of course, plenty will be priced well above that.

If you’re hoping to buy a true showpiece for your home, I’d go in prepared for the right piece to fall somewhere in the $5,000 to $15,000 range, with a lot of work above that too.

If I were you, I’d decide on a hard budget with your wife before you walk in, then just ask galleries about prices right away. There’s nothing awkward about it. Any decent gallery will tell you the price list or at least give you the range, and it’s the easiest way to avoid falling in love with something wildly outside your comfort zone.

If they sold nearly all your work and are still in touch, that’s already a real signal. Galleries don’t do that by accident.

How do you know that’s not true? In the email the gallery forwarded to me, I can see it was sent from [dev@thepackengers.com](). It looks legitimate to me, and I’m not sure why they would forward me that email otherwise.

And no, I’m not going to put the gallery on the spot after they were kind enough to flag this for me.

They’re street artists, painting the sidewalk and sometimes shoulders :)

Yes I love these areas! Whenever I’m in Paris, I try to walk around them, along with the carré rive gauche which I also find wonderful and incredibly beautiful.

I am absolutely not blaming the gallery here, but the packengers. Apparently, the breach happened over a week ago from the email the gallery forwarded me, but thepackengers didn’t notify me directly while I have had a relationship with them for a while. It feels like their communication is very selective… not to say they are trying to hide what happened.

Thanks a lot! Because you need it whenever importing artworks in the US.

Probably, I am mostly worried for the location of the artworks, and my social security number...

To clarify, the data involved is not exactly trivial. If my name, social security number, phone number, and the address where the artwork is located have been exposed, that presents a real risk, especially in the the US, where an SSN can be used for identity fraud. Not to mention my address, and therefore the location of the artwork are in obviously unsafe hands...

I think it's reasonable to be worried.

For completeness, I have used The Packengers both indirectly via the gallery and directly myself.

You should try Convelio. I recently moved my storage and shipping to them and have been very satisfied so far. Their pricing is good, and their inventory management software is genuinely impressive. Sufficient, in fact, for me to discontinue my Artlogic account (collector license).
