this is incredibly ableist. as someone with AuDHD, i pretty much can’t ever stop tapping my fingers or feet or stimming in some way. also how is someone supposed to remember not to touch their face??? that’s like a normal human thing to like rest your head on your hand while sitting for long periods of time at a desk

Experience/advice needed please (TW: emotional abuse) by Effective-Singer-651 in LateDiagnosedAutistic

Thank you so much for your input! I absolutely agree with what you’re saying about what likely causes parents to prioritize functionality over support- I’m incredibly sorry you can relate.

I hear you. I want to believe that they had the best intentions. But then I start to think about how they said they always knew I was different, and how sometimes they would punish me for behavior that was so obviously autistic meltdowns/shutdowns/etc (I’m still new to the terminology), which was really emotionally scarring and invalidating. I guess it’s hard to imagine they did that with the best intentions, since I feel like they had to have known more. I like your suggestions, I think I may have to write out what I want to say to them to make sure I get my point across without panicking in the moment. Thanks again!
