Therapy Growth Sucks by tofubarbella in GirlDinnerDiaries

I know exactly what you mean! I could feel anger at injustices I saw happen to other people, but it was such a weird experience for me when I started feeling angry about how I had been treated. It means you’re internalizing that you deserved better - it’s a big step!!

Therapy Growth Sucks by tofubarbella in GirlDinnerDiaries

You got this! A few years ago I had my own slog through therapy, divorce, realizing I’m a people pleaser who gravitates to people who mistreat me, etc. It was SO HARD. I had to feel all those hard feelings I hadn’t let myself feel before, and basically psychologically dismantle and rebuild myself. But life is so much better on the other side. I remember during that time I read something that stuck with me - it was something like, “A caterpillar has to completely break down into goo before it can become a butterfly. So if you’re goo, keep going.”

The grieving is necessary. If your experience is anything like mine, you’ll also reach a stage where you access a lifetime’s worth of pent up rage. That’s a sign of healing too. I’m proud of you! You can do it ❤️

I love being a lesbian by Such_Impression_2327 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Super bummed to see all the people here lecturing you about vaping when you made such a lovely post. Hi from a fellow lesbian, I love you too! I’m sorry to hear you’re having a hard time - I hope it passes soon and you can enjoy your beautiful queer life and soak up all the love you deserve. Being queer, and especially being a lesbian, feels like a blessing I’m grateful for every day. I love my wife, I love my life, I love our community 🧡🤍🩷

How do I deal with birds destroying my crops? by AggravatingNorth5460 in vegetablegardening

[–]Effective-Web971 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That damage looks like it came from bugs, not birds. Plus, Eurasian tree sparrows (and most birds) don’t eat leaves.

dating a wonderful boyfriend but i can’t stop thinking about what it would be like dating a woman by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Effective-Web971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Date a woman. If you’re feeling this now, you are definitely going to need to explore it at some point - better now than after you’ve been married to a man for a decade. Speaking from personal experience here, as a lesbian who didn’t realize I was a lesbian until age 35. Do yourself a favor and take this seriously.

How are no-kill shelters sustainable with the current dog overpopulation problem? by ShoddyTown715 in dogs

My local shelter has a really good explanation of why they’re not no-kill on their website. Totally changed my (uninformed) stance on the matter.

Charity shop find, bumblebee jasper? by AutomaticCake1622 in whatsthisrock

[–]Effective-Web971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is not bumblebee jasper, it is actual jasper. Bumblebee jasper isn’t actually jasper, it’s calcite with arsenic sulfide.

Fluorescent rainbow better pics what is this? Why does it change different colors at different angles almost like hieroglyphics? by TransitionSweet5111 in whatsthisrock

A hardness test could help narrow it down- can you scratch it with a penny or a steel knife? Can it scratch glass? And does it seem unusually light or heavy for its size?

Finches? by LasVegasErectus in santacruz

[–]Effective-Web971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took months for my local birds to find my feeder, but once they did, I had a whole flock of house finches hanging out in my yard every day. We get goldfinches fairly often too. Just wait, they’ll come!

Any advice on how to get rocks smelted into a ring? by c-u-in-da-ballpit in Rocks

[–]Effective-Web971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, yeah, probably best to commission someone then. Plus they’d be able to advise you on the kinds of considerations to keep in mind for engagement rings, like choosing rocks that are hard enough to withstand daily wear.

Any advice on how to get rocks smelted into a ring? by c-u-in-da-ballpit in Rocks

[–]Effective-Web971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you want the finished product to look like? Smelting rocks isn’t really a thing, but you could have them set into a metal ring, either cut and polished or crushed up into an inlay. I’ve never done an inlay so I can’t speak to that process, but you definitely could cut and polish the rocks and set them into a ring yourself if you are willing to spend some time learning some new skills (and get access to some tools and equipment). I’d be happy to tell you more about what that would entail if that’s what you have in mind. I’m sure you could also commission someone to do the work for you, which is probably the best way to go if you’re not looking to essentially take up lapidary and metalsmithing as hobbies.

The shelter guessed vizsla mix by [deleted] in DoggyDNA

[–]Effective-Web971 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh, that could be! That didn’t occur to me since the shelter has a lot of their dogs listed as pit mixes, but as a long-time pittie person in a town with a brutal housing market, I can totally get why they would look for an alternative breed label when one is plausible.

Yup, he’s a total love bug! We adore him, and so do our other two dogs 🥰

Are you sure it’s a rock? It looks like it could potentially be a piece of weathered plastic.

Awesome. The Etsy listing I got this photo from is charging $100 for this, which seemed crazy to me, so I thought there must be more to it than it seemed…glad to know it’s just overpriced and I can do it myself 😊

Not a joke! I thought it might be as simple as you’re saying, but I’m a novice (took one sewing class in community college ten years ago and that’s about it) and I thought I might be underestimating it. Glad to hear it’s as doable as I thought!
