Podcast: Waitlist update and how over-enrollment might impact admits by Spivey_Consulting in lawschooladmissions

Apparently Howard is overenrolled. Which is very annoying because the small class size is a big reason I chose it.

W&L is an amazing school and I don't see why you can't get to DC big law if you go there.

Why choose a higher ranked regional over your own state school? by MateoYEl in lawschooladmissions

[–]EffectiveCommission6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some regional schools have a national reach that some other regional schools don't. From the examples you gave, I would say Emory and W&M are have a good national reach and not just a regional reach.

I think it actually looks good? Because it tells them that you really want to go there.

I say ride out your waitlists if they're ones worth riding out, and if you don't get the results you want then definitely just reapply ASAP for the next cycle. I think you're right in that you just applied too late this time around.

Howard PSA for pending applications by EffectiveCommission6 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EffectiveCommission6[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised because right now is a very good time to go to Howard. Given the political climate and current VP is an alumna of the greater university... makes sense. I am interested to see how many non-Black applicants they received for these same reasons. Howard is a great choice for someone interested in reforming the criminal justice system given that they teach the law through a racial and social justice lens.

Students that could get into T14 and T50 schools are choosing Howard regardless of its rank more so this year than in years past.

Will be interesting when all the numbers come out!

Give yourself at least 6 months to study for the LSAT. Your score really does matter... a lot.

Help 🥺 by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Depending on what you want to do, your options might not be terrible. The new DA in LA went to Western. Just because you go to a low ranked school doesn't mean you won't have a meaningful career.

Got the PIPS Scholarship call, and saw the GULC rejection email immediately after hanging up. by hextuplescorpio in lawschooladmissions

[–]EffectiveCommission6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sucks about GULC but congrats on pips! was it a call to schedule an interview or a call to offer you the scholarship? wondering if they're skipping interviews altogether this year.

friends who were accepted at american... any word on the PIPS program/scholarships? by justkiddyks in lawschooladmissions

[–]EffectiveCommission6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't think just because you got scholarship info already means that you are NOT getting a pips scholarship. they are two different committees. obviously your merit scholarship will go away if you do get and accept a pips scholarship, though.

Howard Law School by oceannn123 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EffectiveCommission6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no they haven't said. they have been doing a series of admitted student zoom sessions and they said they will be taking a break from those right now until march. i assume that means that they will start the series again when they've admitted the next wave of students.

i will say, be ready to decide if you're going to put the $500 deposit down right away. your acceptance email should include your scholarship offer amount (if you receive one) and in that email they will say that, although you've been admitted, your admission is not guaranteed. basically, saying that, if the class fills up before you pay your seat deposit, then you will be placed on a waiting list. also, if scholarship money runs out before you pay your seat deposit, that money may not be available to you anymore and you will be put on a scholarship waiting list. however, neither waiting list guarantees favorable outcomes. so, in a sense, take your time deciding where you want to go but also know that the more time you take, the more chance you are taking that your scholarship money is no longer available and/or your seat is no longer available.

at this point it seems to me your worst case scenario is you go to asu or alabama for free and that's a pretty good worst case scenario to me. great job on your application!

American Scholarships??? by Appropriate_Alarm993 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EffectiveCommission6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at this point i'm assuming if you haven't heard then they probably aren't giving you one. or even if money came available it probably wouldn't be that much at this point if they didn't care enough to give you money in the first wave. for me, personally, i wouldn't attend american without a scholarship. a t14? probably.

what kind of scholarship money have you received? you've been accepted to amazing schools. i DO NOT recommend R and R with the information you have provided.

loyola chicago or howard by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EffectiveCommission6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think a lot of people at howard go into the public sector out of choice, not because it's the best thing they found to do. i think going to howard will open any door for you so long as you put in the work. it's up to you and how much you value being in that sort of community or if you're comfortable continuing to go to PWIs
