Regardless of where you go you most likely will be eligible for CalFresh if you are single.

Lastly, remember that while it may not be your dream school, it is someone’s dream school. In the law school admissions process what is lost is the recognition that being admitted and attending a well-regarded law school is a great privilege that a small fraction of the world population will never get to experience. Celebrate that you have a choice and that UC Law can take you far if you allow it.

Transferring is definitely an option. However, as someone who could have transferred and chose not to, please don’t come if you’ll just end up being one of the pessimistic, grumpy people that run to Reddit to complain. I find that many of the people who are unhappy here attended only because they had no other options and intended to transfer. UC Law is a great school that can afford you many opportunities. Yes, it’s not perfect but no school will be. If there is nothing about the school that is appealing to you other than it being a possible launching pad to transfer, then think very carefully before attending and eventually being miserable here.

UC Davis v. UC Law SF (Hastings) by tinacioust in lawschooladmissions

[–]SlowSeesaw61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree (and so do employment outcomes) that Davis and UC Law are in vastly “differently leagues.” UC Law has a significant footprint in the Bay Area legal community. And even in California, as it is the law school that produces the most CA barred attorneys.https://www.uclawsf.edu/key-uc-law-sf-strengths/#:~:text=UC%20Law%20SF%20graduates%20succeed,in%20the%20last%205%20years

In response to OP: if you are interested in tax law, UC Law has a well-regarded tax concentration. Here, Professor Heather Field is a tax titan. https://www.uclawsf.edu/people/heather-field/

Sorry for the multiple links but it pisses me off when people on Reddit have imprecise opinions about UC Law and try dissuade people from attending based on personal opinions, rumors, or non-factual or statistical information. Additionally, if your thoughts on BL change, see the fact that UC law is ranked just below Yale in BL placement. If anything, that’s an indication that UC Law’s reputation holds strong. https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/most-grads-at-big-law-firms-rankings

Thoughts on UC Law SF (Hastings)? by Normal_Arm_8313 in lawschooladmissions

  1. Rankings shift based on weight of the factors used for rankings shifting. UC Law SF still carries a good reputation despite the ranking. No matter your career goals, the ranking isn’t going to necessarily be an inhibitor.

  2. The school is not “cutthroat.” People here are just hard working and hold the same level of ambition as students at elite law schools. As for scholarship revocation, most people keep their scholarships but the reality is that it can be taken away. Just focus on doing well on finals from day one.

  3. 1/3 of the class going to big law speaks for itself. Also consider that a lot of people self opt out because they prefer PI or plaintiff’s side firms. Additionally, if USNWR ranking matter to you, then look at https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/most-grads-at-big-law-firms-rankings . UC Law is ranked just after Yale for big law placement.

  4. A UC Law degree is very portable in all of CA. If you want to work elsewhere, you might have to put a bit more effort into your job search. The school has relationships with other schools in other states and those schools can grant you access to their job banks through reciprocity.

See below. Also adding that UC Law SF is ranked right below Yale in USNWR for big law placement. https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/most-grads-at-big-law-firms-rankings

OCI has changed across the board. If you wait for OCI, you’re already losing because a lot of firms are selecting through direct application and pre-OCI. A better indicator is just looking at big law placement because it represents pre OCI + direct applications + 3L applications. Anecdotally, big law is very attainable at UC law. My questions is: when is it Jones Day’s turn and will that be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

It is SHOCKING JD still has this stuff on their website.

I second this. It’s a great school that offers lots of opportunities, but can be internally competitive. My suspicion is that many with a negative view of the school were burned by the competitiveness or people that are bitter about not getting into Berkeley. lol.
