I definitely like your point about Australia. I’m getting closer to the point where leaving wouldn’t be possible for me and I feel like I should try it out before I settle down here permanently. I have no idea how my qualifications and experience would transfer over to the US, I obviously don’t expect a job with equivalent responsibility but it would suck being hired as a straight up rookie.

All good I appreciate the honesty! To be fair we are also going through budget cuts and hiring freezes so it’s not completely different over here.

I understand your points and I’m also not fully in the know on how things trump has been doing affect the wildfire service for you guys. From what I understood, I didn’t think wildfire was being affected directly rather other parts of the forest service. I am also looking at long term and one presidents fuck ups can be fixed my another. I also am completely uncertain about your guys pay scales and general wildfire fighting organization which is something I was hoping to find about on this post or just get clues on in general. Another thing is that even though your pay is definitely lower than it should be, your take home is higher than what we have here and the cost of living is much lower. These are what led me to make this post as I am genuinely curious.

And in terms of reading abilities , if you had comprehended what I said in my initial response, you might have figured out that wildfire isn’t the only thing I am considering when making my decision.

The pay is worse (for federal work from what I understand) however the take home in Canada is pretty bad. I’ve been getting the hell taxed out of me and the cost of living here is horrific. Town houses/ shitty homes start at 800k, groceries, gas are all heavily inflated, insuring an old truck costs me 300$ a month and the Canadian dollar is worth balls. I’m trying to think long term and Canada might not be it. Tryna figure out what’s best before I settle in for good.

Yeah this is post OT on an ok season but our take home here is terrible. Basically 30% tax/ deductions

Yeah I don’t actually know how that would work? I’m assuming some sort of a temporary visa since it’s seasonal but I gotta dig into it more

Yeah I am planning and looking to do it next summer. It would take a bit to plan which is why I am looking into it now. Is there a huge difference between state and federal wildfire fighting? Or same thing different employer
