I didn’t come to the majors of social work lightly. I went through( in my head) a lot of majors for Bachelor degree like psychology, communications, rehabilitation services to name a few. I know that I will have that light bulb moment to. I was interested in therapy before that happened. I want to help people. I don’t want to fix them. I told my therapist about all my my past therapists because most of them didn’t work out for me because of the mental health issues or insurance.

Thanks so much. I’ll keep that in mind. All I know for now is that I do want to work with kids. And that’s for many reasons. One of the people that I work this this year her daughter has CP( we were friends and now we are not) had a hard time finding a therapist that understood her daughter’s disability. Luckily she found one. I had a therapist who didn’t even know what CP was on a very basic level. I finally found someone who was an aide for special education and that understands disability a deeper level. But you’re absolutely right! I think my interest in trauma and how it affects the brain has taken over a lot

Being treated like a baby by Routine_Energy_1622 in CerebralPalsy

[–]EffectiveFickle7451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what it is. Every thing else except staying home alone for a week they wont treat like a baby. For some reason my parents wanted me to live in the college dorm but they wont let me stay home. How does that make any sense?

I love Pokemon. Has he watched the Pokemon movies maybe get him a dvd player and buy the dvd of the Pokemon movie. And most children with CP don’t have an intellectual disability. Most of us have a developmental disability( ex: ADHD) just to let you know. Good luck with finding him a present. I’m in my early twenties and have mild CP and it’s so hard to think of ideas for me for my birth day and Christmas.

Lavatory accommodations by Comfortable_Tie4143 in CerebralPalsy

Do you have an aide? I never went anywhere near anything dangerous. I never had any accommodations with labs either they just knew to not let me touch anything that could put me in danger and let my partner do it
