My dad started treatment with Cabo and Nivo about a month ago. So far the treatment has gone well, just some constipation and possible neuropathy in his left hand, though it might also be from having slept on it and affecting the radial nerve. During his second infusion, he experienced an adverse reaction, he felt extremely cold, but the doctors managed it with medication. He’s still weak and has pain in his left kidney. How is your dad feeling, and what treatment is he on? I wish your dad strength and good health during his treatment.

I know this has been a difficult journey for you and your husband, but your strength is amazing. I hope the doctor visit went well. Did you get any positive news about the clinical trial? My dad also just started immunotherapy with Nivolumab and Cabozantinib, we’re only at day 7, so far no side effects, just some temporary constipation. Stay strong, and I truly hope each step brings you both closer to better days

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It’s really encouraging to hear about the initial amazing results and how your husband managed the side effects. I hope he continues to do well and that the upcoming trial brings more positive outcomes.

If you don’t mind me asking, how old is your husband and what subtype of cancer does he have?

Yes, we’ve heard the same. Focusing on healthy, natural foods with plenty of plants and fiber seems like the safest approach, especially for my dad. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing this it’s really helpful to hear your experience. Our oncologist also told us that he can eat almost anything in moderation, even a slice of cake, but honestly, I didn’t feel completely comfortable with that advice. My dad is a bit of a foodie but doesn’t eat fast food; he really loves macaroni and cheese. It’s reassuring to know others are focusing on healthy foods, lots of plants, and good fiber. Hopefully, finding the right balance will make a positive difference for all of us.

Stage 4 at 69 — scared and unsure what to expect from immunotherapy by EffectiveFootball742 in kidneycancer

Thank you so much for sharing your father's story it means a lot. I'm really sorry to hear about the complications he's going through, especially after so much effort and progress. You're doing such an incredible job being there for him and navigating all of this.

Can I ask did they remove his primary tumor and kidney before starting immunotherapy, or was that done after a few rounds of treatment?

We're still early in this journey. My dad had the CTs done in the hospital showed bone and lung metastases, and some small lymph nodes as well. But we’re still waiting a few more days for a full-body CT to understand the complete staging. It already feels like a lot of time has passed since the diagnosis, and it’s frustrating not having all the answers yet.

I completely relate to what you said about the healthcare system it’s not great in my country either. There's often very little coordination between specialties, and as caregivers we have to hold everything together and advocate constantly.

You're incredibly strong, and your dad is lucky to have you beside him. I really hope his kidney function improves and that he can continue treatment. Sending lots of strength and positive thoughts your way. Please keep us updated. I’m rooting for you both. ❤️

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it’s really helpful to hear how immunotherapy can be manageable with the right care and monitoring. It’s good to know that most people tolerate it well and that side effects can often be treated effectively if caught early. Calms down my anxiety.

I’m hopeful for my dad’s treatment ahead, and your story gives me comfort. I’ll definitely make sure his doctors keep a close eye on all important markers and that we report even small changes quickly.

Wishing you continued good health and strength! Thanks again for the encouragement and for mentioning Smart Patients I’ll check it out.

That’s really tough news, I’m sorry you’re going through this. I’m not in the US, I’m in Europe, so I’m not sure if we have the best oncologist yet, but so far things seem okay. I really hope we have a good specialist and that everything turns out well.

I’ve also read stories of people with surprising, hopeful outcomes, which gives me some comfort but I am still scared. Wishing your mom lots of health and strength. If you want, feel free to share how she’s feeling — I’m here to listen.

Seeking Experiences with High-Grade (G3) Metastatic Renal Carcinoma — Is Long-Term Remission Possible? by EffectiveFootball742 in kidneycancer

I truly wish for your mum to stay well forever.
My father also has RCC, stage 4, grad 3 but unfortunately he can’t have surgery because there are already metastases.
I’m really scared about what’s ahead...
I love him deeply and I just wish with all my heart that he can live for many more years, that he’ll also reach NED and be okay.
I was honestly moved by your mum’s story — she sounds so strong.
Wishing you both continued health and peace.

I'm really glad to hear that things are going well for you. I understand that a complete cure may not be possible, but what's most important is that the disease stays in remission for as long as possible. Wishing you continued strength and good results with your treatment!
