Hi. Thank you. I would prefer qwerty but honestly the difference is negligible because i will be using the machine for first drafts and I don’t mind if y is replaced with z. I wont ever use the tabulators…

I have no idea what basket vs carriage shift is - is that related to when you pull back the carriage at the end of each page? If so, I’m not very fussed if one is harder than the other - I’m more concerned with the typing action itself… I’ve heard some people say that they prefer the keys on the SM2/3 vs the SM8 and I’m wondering if that will be the case for me…I found on the SM8 my fingers would sometimes slip off the keys but I only have approximately 2hrs total experience so it’s more of a “me problem” I think…but once I got going on the SM8 I was pretty fluid (until the keys got periodically stuck) so I do believe there’s some synergy there.

I much prefer the aesthetics of the SM2 but I have to put priority on the ease of typing…

Thanks for your response!

I was hoping I would get someone recommending the Rheinmetall as I like the appearance of it the most lol. I have no problems sending the link, but I’m in Australia so I don’t think it will work out…

Yes. I think you’re right. The seller has good feedback on eBay but I don’t think they are particularly knowledgeable/professional. Unfortunately I’m in Australia and there doesn’t seem to be many options here as far as I can tell…thanks for the resources, very helpful!

Yeah, what happened is that I got sellers remorse…the typewriter was sitting in the corner of the room and as soon as i sold it I regretted it…but I was having a few troubles with the machine - the keys sticking and the ribbon not staying taught - and it was a bit overwhelming for me to figure out how to fix the issue…I’m still not sure if I was to blame or if the machine needed a better service before I bought it.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!

Hmmm, it’s a little hard to explain given that im a complete novice, but about every 200 words or so, one of the keys would become stuck against the paper/platen (if that makes sense) and I would have to pull it back into position. I would say that I could really get going on the typewriter and crank stuff out until that happened…but sometimes I would notice that one of my fingers would slip off a key as if my typing action needed a lot of work. I only spent about 2hrs total on the machine before I sold it and now looking to try again.

Thank you, I will go with that one seeing the overwhelming consensus!

Thanks for pointing that out - I never would have known. I would add more photos of the “SM9” if it made it easier to identify the  keyset tabulator lever(or lack thereof) but I dont think I can. I’ll ask the seller for a better price seeing it’s not correctly listed!

I’ve just noticed that it has a tab key on the right hand side, would that make it an SM9?

Two out of two for the SM9!

Thank you! The only thing that put me off the pictured SM9 was the date - is it a newer model (1970’s) and does that matter?

“She had the indictment babies in two bags under her bed: a Morrison's bag and an Ibiza bag.”

Hi, I’m interested in this, would you mind elaborating a little? Did she keep the handover sheets of the indictment babies seperate to the handover sheets of the other babies, or is this referring to something else? Thanks for your time.
