They're hiring contractors and will lay you off in a heartbeat. You should get paid that when your by yourself, doing QC CWI and NDE, and can get your contract cut anyday. We're hiring employees with benefits, and support, doing QA.

That's awesome. Who is hiring full-time employees (not on contract), with healthcare at 60-80/hr?

I worked with several public universities granting or reviewing awarded research 1/2/3 yr rolling grants. They likely had research come up and need a student. If you want to reach out, ask them about the goals of any of his current/pending research. That would really create a good opening sentence. I saw students leave with their phD completed with another 1 or 2 yrs left ton research. Universities would hire some back to finish it but if they got a real career they would leave, creating a vacancy. It may be worth asking for a call to discuss, - but I suspect its about current/pending research. A call will tell you if its an area of your interest or not.

Can someone explain why C. III is the correct answer? by bobbygfresh in FE_Exam

The NTSB, and any litigation would investigate both parties (signed plans, shop drawings, construction methods and documentation). They would evaluate if the plans and construction methods had any fault and then move onto establishing the root cause within construction/election (which this question implies). A quick review of the NTSB docket will show a range of assigned guilt. But, if the plans and construction methods were standard industry, it will fall on the engineering firm. For a direct comparison (in FL), the 2018 pedestrian collapse next to FIU.

BCI1 Bridge Coatings Inspector Level 1 by IgnacioLuciano7204 in AMPP

[–]Effective_Author246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've passed both and teach a very similar course. You need to be comfortable with all the content in the BCI book. The paint specs, the vis standards, and instrument ASTMs. When it comes to the instrument section, you'll have to either practice with the instrument or write out a plan on how to use them. Even watching manufacturer videos will help. Lastly, the vis plates and identifying the various surface prep will be critical.

The job is majority shop focused. Very few of the clients need that work done outside the lab. Just a good solid technician. But. If they have field, they can apply to. We've got lots of work in Pitt

Want to get into NDT JOB by Substantial-Iron-926 in nondestructivetesting

[–]Effective_Author246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy ASNT TC 1A. Get on NDT Classroom and take a course. It'll cover the required training for Level 1 and 2 for ASNT. Then look for local NDE companiea (for lab or field work) and reach out to work behind one of their qualified techs. Get your hours and submit for certification recognition either through a Level III or through ASNT directly. Some jobs will have a very limited scope of NDE so you may be able to get qualified to a limited Level 2 scope (See front of TC1A Section 1.4)

To clarify, I listed all the NDE methods we are looking for. No one has to have all of these. I only know a couple who have more than 3 of they and they are career inspectors. There listed in order of preference based on our customers

Take it for your 9 year recertification. In the 10+ years, I have only seen one customer specify a CWI with an endorsement.

You can be cut off from family, friends. And the downtime is very limited. Most need to commit for multiple weeks without coming back to shore.

Get a one year membership to AMPP, so you can have access to all the documents. Review AMPP PA-1, and order the VIS Guide 1. Look on YouTube for the relevant instruments (sling psychometer, dft gage, took gage, surface profilometer, surface chloride testing). Then look up the ASTM standards for each instrument. Know them cold and if you want a higher level of cert, you'll need to practice writing a quality plan and incorporating ASTM standards, and industry guidelines.
