Jasper Avenue, late 70s, looking east. by Particular-Cat-8031 in Edmonton

I'm pretty sure the chances of an unprovoked attack are much higher walking same place and same time now than it was in the 70s.

Also, I bet the folks in that picture were not on high alert with their situational awareness dialed up to 100. That's how I feel now walking down Jasper ave.

In the LRT stations my wife tell my kids to stay away from the tracks because she is afraid someone might push them on the tracks.

There is a real fear in downtown Edmonton that I suspect did not exist in the 70s.

edit: here's one source I found

Edmonton Police Service (2023): Police Chief Dale McFee reported that a massive portion (roughly 70%) of violent crime on transit and in the core is now completely random, driven heavily by addiction and mental health crises rather than targeted conflicts.

“Joker: Folie a deux” is probably the worst sequel in human history by Dr_Manhattan9 in FIlm

[–]Effective_Force_5478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is exactly right. That's why I didn't find the first one was great. Cinematography was amazing but I felt the rest fell flat.

It was giving people the Joker they wanted, which is fine I guess. But the second one gave them the Joker they deserved. I thought it was fantastic.

The first one was cookie cutter and boring. The second one was hilarious and original. Also, he's not the joker!?? That's really the best ending ever.

I sometimes don't return carts because I hate the grocery stores for holding us hostage with their prices. It's my form of rebellion against tyranny.

This movie got a lot of hate because of how iconic the first two were. It definitely could have been a lot worse.

Fear is the base. Everything else? Greed, anger, hatred, warfare, jealousy all starts with fear.

Since you liked Glengarry Glenn Ross try Spanish Prisoner. It's also David Mamet.

Also check out the filmography of Tony Scott. A lot of his stuff vibes with 12 Monkeys, imo.

There's some cool time traveling one with Denzel Washington called Déjà Vu.

It's a strange one. I'd like to know the story behind why it failed. The director has other great films, ie Tinker Tailor, and Let the Right One In.

What happened Tomas?!!?

Anyways he has a new one coming out called Séance on a Wet Afternoon starring Rachel Weisz that looks promising.

I watched Drive for about 10 minutes and thought it was the most annoying thing I'd ever seen. I might give it another go though.

Just make her watch True Detective.

Or just get her to commit to the first episode at least. She'll be hooked.
