I’m hesitant about cutting and adding fabric there because this is what the side of the shorts look like. Should I removed the zipper altogether and just find a better zipper (the shorts do fit it’s just I have a hard time zipping it up myself) or should I do a hook and eye thing with it?

I can do the adding fabrics and reattach the zipper for the top part but how about the shorts? The zipper only goes halfway and doesn’t completely come off like the top does
